UPS missing package

I dropped a package off at Staples for UPS pick up. I printed the label through ebay. The Staples scanner was broken, so they keyed in the info from the preprinted label and gave me a receipt with tracking number. Tracking shows, after 4 days, that "UPS is not in possession of package" though it does say label was printed. I called Staples, they said UPS picks up every day and it was picked up. It was a large 4'x2' x8" package, so hard to miss.

UPS said I can file a lost package claim if it doesn't show up on tracking by Saturday. What will I get from them? Just the shipping amount? What about the value of the item lost? Does ebay get involved to refund me the lost item's value as well as the sale price to the buyer? I never use UPS, so have no experience with this.

Did you compare the tracking number on the receipt to the number on the label?

possibly a typo in the manual entry

Since tracking just shows a label was purchased and no acceptance scan, probably won't get anything from UPS.

No, Ebay will not refund you for the lost item.

If the label never gets scanned, you might be able to get it refunded.

As far as the buyer goes, if they file an INR, you give them a full refund.

Have a great day.

Sounds more like a 'Staples Store' problem.

Although you can buy stamps and ship items there...those are inexperienced employees who work for the store...not UPS.

We had a Staples Store near me that had that kind of service...it closed..bunch of teen-age kids worked there.

A receipt..does it state UPS on it and nothing else?

Maybe wrong numbers got keyed in on preprinted label.

Good idea. But I just checked, they are the same.

@cathy5222

I have had a few large UPS shipments not get a scan right away. Though the few that did not, ending up showing tracking when reaching the destination distribution center.

As long as you covered the shipping label completely and securely with clear packing tape, your shipment is most likely on the way.

If the packaging you shipped in starts coming apart, that can be an issue.  Hope not.

I don't believe staples or any other like it offer actual acceptance scans.

Which is why I don't leave packages at them, same for FedEx, with the exclusion of 'On Site', something Walgreen's has, that can actually provide drop off scans.

From when I dropped off a UPS package at staples, they gave me a paper form receipt that I dropped it off to them, it does not go to the UPS.

Your best bet for UPS drop off is UPS Store locations.

For lost item, for most UPS services includes at least $100 of insurance. You should be able to use your Staples receipt as evidence that it was handed over if no acceptance is ever shown.

@lakefor94 Hopefully that is what will happen. Label was secured and package was very strong. I am thinking  maybe all the storms between me ( in NY ) and buyer (in Florida) may be hiolding it up.

Yes, valid assumptions.
