On many of my listings I specifically select 4 (business) Days handling time and Economy shipping (1-10 days). Meaning if the customer purchase the item on Monday 1st, I have the time to ship the item as of Friday 5th, plus the package may be in transit for another 10 days, delivered on 15th, and I'm still within "promised" delivery date range.
Ebay, on the other hand showing the buyer estimated delivery dates from Thursday 4th, until Tuesday 9th.
Why is that? I specifically selected longer handling times and slowest shipping to lower the expectation of the potential buyers to give myself and the carrier more time for some unexpected issues. I usually ship on the same day of the order and using standard or expedited shipping (over-deliver), while I prefer to "under-promise" my customers to protect myself from unexpected hiccups.
But eBay us over-promising my customers for some reason.

eBay is not "over promising".
They report based on your prior history.... ie since 90% of the time you ship same day, they expect you to continue to do that.

What's the point of having "handling time" setting at all then? I mean there is a reason why I set my handling time long as well as shipping time long.

Honestly, unless you are going to use the entire handling time there is no reason to actually have one more than a day or 2.
eBay in their infinite wisdom will disregard your stated handling time if you consistently ship early as they use your statistical average shipping time instead of what you post on your listing.
It's ridiculous but it's their sandbox.

It isn't a huge difference, just a day or two but the shipping estimate you see is based on shipping to your own zip code. Try putting in 91911 from San Diego and the time is different.

eBay should just stop doing that. Even fortune tellers can't tell you when a package will arrive. Just makes the buyers yippy. On the other hand, we do like to see them squirm a bit.....

I do it to not get "dinged" for late shipping in the event that I have a temporary:
weather delay
power outage
internet outage
me outage

I won't be happy until eBay stops estimating to buyers that my Ground Advatage packages will take 5 days to arrive to the virgin islands.
