I am having a reocurring problem with the eBay Standard Envelope showing "Delivered" when it physically has not been delivered yet. It usually shows up a day or two later.
The issue is that some buyers freak out and think that their "Delivered" envelope has been stolen or went to the wrong place. I've had buyers checking with neighbors or posting on "Nextdoor" about their lost "delivered" envelope. Usually the buyer will then contact me and I explain the unique tracking issues and they happily get their items shortly.
But now some buyers are just going ahead and quickly filing disputes. Last month one buyer got a full refund from my account when they didn't want to wait for it. Maybe it did indeed get lost, but I used to be able to have the buyer wait 30 days for a lost envelope. Now they want refunds quickly.
Here is the latest example: I mailed a postcard 11/23 and yesterday (11/27) the customer filed a dispute of non-delivery, since eBay Standard Envelope tracking showed it was "delivered" at 6 AM on 11/26. I answered the dispute but the buyer can just close it, and receive a full refund after 12/2. Filing insurance claims for only a $10 item seems time-consuming.
I sell about 100 postcards a month, mostly for about $10 with free shipping. I have been using the eBay Standard Envelope for several months but the constant customer concerns on tracking (false "delivered" or lack of tracking) may not be worth the hassle. Up front, every buyer gets an e-mail message from us explaining the nuances of the eBay Standard Envelope, but more and more are not reading it, or ignoring it.
I may just revert to putting stamps on the envelope with no tracking and charging $1 postage and self-insuring. The alternative is to pay about $3.50+ for regular First Class Tracking, which certainly is not worth it for a $10 item. I may lose my power seller discount but at least impatient customers won't be tracking the envelope.
What do others do?

I wouldn't do anything like you're doing at all. I don't believe on Self-insurance
But holidays are on their way and things will get worst for you. Increase your prices and do First Class shipping

Just an update - the customer acknowledged yesterday 12/2 on the dispute that they did indeed receive the postcard and thanked me but elevated the case for resolution. What is odd is that the dispute was closed by eBay early this morning 12/3 with the buyer fully refunded by eBay but "without any impact to you". Case is now closed.
So in summary, the customer got the postcard plus got fully refunded by eBay, all due to a dispute being filed by a new buyer (feedback was zero) due to eBay Standard Envelope showing "Delivered" before it physically got to the buyer.
Makes no sense!

I had similar issues with tracking the standard envelope, and this is what I was told by another user. My Local post office has not been scanning the envelopes when I do a drop-off.
The eBay "standard" envelope is scanned at sorting centers but not at Post Offices. It doesn't get a regular acceptance scan nor delivery scan.

Right, they don't get a picked up scan or a real delivery scan. Everything is scanned when it goes through a sorting machine and the delivery is just estimated when it goes through the machine at the final post office. It can lead to eBay's tracking to claim it's been delivered too early, or sometimes never delivered at all.
It's still a little better than just using a stamp though at the same price.

Get this.
Just got an ebay standard envelope back that I have been using for years and thousands of coins.
Postage was due for a 'non-standard Mail" and it was marked as delivered on ebay tracking.
The buyer has not contacted me for the item nor left any feedback and it was mailed on MARCH 3RD.
it is now April.
According to Ebay southeast asia help desk, they have similar problems with the envelope, and blah, blah, blah from the 3 ring binder, they will let me know what is up.
Going back to my standard shipping label and use stamps. to h**l with ebay's worthless shipping discount.
Now I will have to reship a .7ounce item back with .96 cents worth of materials and another $1.298 in labor.
