Anyone else noticed? Over the weekend, the prices being quoted for using SmartPost have just exploded! Much higher than they were last week - is this some sort of programming glitch? I just checked FedEx rates on their own website, and those prices for SmartPost are much lower. What's happening?

Is it a large package? I heard Smart Post now has dimensional limits and an oversized package will cost considerably more.

As mentioned above, SmartPost not only increased rates (I think 5%) but they have begun charging for dimensional weights ... that dimensional weight charge is probably what you are seeing.
Here's more info:
For large packages, this probably means USPS Parcel Select is the less expensive choice.

I have noticed this yesterday (Jan 21st) the smartpost prices have gone up by almost 400% more than usual and I have sold more than 85 item during the weekend but I can't ship them because the shipping costs me more than the selling price. The rate on FedEx and USPS have increased by 4.9% but I don't know why it doesn't work correctly on eBay, please advice.
The prices for USPS Parcel Select or FedEx Ground/Home will probably be a better choice.
I don't believe their is a dimensional surcharge for USPS Parcel Select ... at least, I haven't encountered it ... yet.

While the rates may have only increased an average 4.9% for the weight/distance group, the package size now counts too as FedEx is applying DimWeight charges to SmartPost shipments. They've also lowered the divisor from 166 to 139
LxWxH/139 - gives you the "weight" it will charged against.

Make sure you have your package dimensions entered correctly.
I shipped 3 SmartPost last night, but none were anywhere near the size for dimensional weight so I can't speak beyond the fact that the three did show about a 5% increase.

Hi, thanks for responding. But I believe what I am seeing is a programming glitch. The rates shouldn't have gone up over 100%.

I'm having the same issue. Something that should have cost $12.50 to send is now $31.12. The listing shows the correct price when I put in the zip code so I don't understand what is going on.

"Effective January 22, 2018, FedEx SmartPost will apply dimensional weight pricing" from the FedEx News section on their website. So my experience just today a 12x10x6 box that weighs 2# should cost about $8.50 to go across several zones but with the dimwt calc 12x10x6/139=5.18 pounds and now costs $13.50. Nothing over about a 6 cube box is economical to ship Smartpost.

Just noticed this as well i heard about the dimensional weight thing, but this is ridicolous. Smartpost was a lot cheaper for things between about 2-5 pounds going to the other coast, but now a 12x9x6 box thats only 3 lbs costs almost 15 bucks when before it was around $10.xx or so.

Fedex Smartpost rates are incorrect as well as some ground. It was all over the board over the weekend with 12.00 smartpost rates coming up as 28.00- 35.00 and some 21-23.00 ground rates changed to 145.00. Its incorrect. Look up 2017 and 2018 Smartpost rates on Google these on eBay are definately wrong. Why use smartpost if its more than USPS priority, Its stupid. We all know calling eBay is like pulling teeth and every time I get the great Idea to call them, I tell myself DONT DO IT!@!... but I did it anyway today after a weekend of fedex pricing all over the place when tried to print labels on a bunch of packages. What a mistake that was, just the same **bleep** starting out with a low level unskilled rep answering from the comfort of his home and then being passed to 4 other depts. to be told in the end it was Fedex not Ebay and nobody had a clue what I was talking about(just like all my other calls over the last 10 years). Called Fedex right after and they said eBay handles everything on ebay and they have nothing to do with. Currently, its still messed up! The next time I get the great idea to call eBay would someone please just stab me in the eye with a fork!

I hate being the one to say this... but you ALL need to call eBay and tell them fedex smartpost is messed up when you go to print a label. I know Iknow, calling ebay can be like wet grocery bags, getting a bad haircut, overcrowded trains, turnstiles that don't turn and spilling hot coffee all over yourself, but its the only choice we have..
