I bought a package of several items with free shipping. Two of the items arrived broken. One of the items I did not care about but one I did. I told the seller about it and asked for $10 to buy a replacement part and then sent the seller an item number for the part so they could buy it and have it sent to me. I then sent photos of the item and the box. The seller said the box is damaged I should contact shipper and file a claim with them but I believe it is the sellers' job to do that. Seller said they take photos of everything so I asked the seller to send me a photo of the item they said they would not until a claim is filed? I know I should have asked for a photo first, oh well. So far no claims have been filed and obviously this is the first time for me on this subject.

You gave them the chance to make it right. File a SNAD claim with eBay. They will send you a return label (paid for with the sellers money), when the tracking shows it delivered back to the seller eBay will refund you (also from the sellers account) for the full amount that you paid.
By the way, I'm a mail carrier and the box does not look too damaged to me. Did the seller not protect the items from beating together and against the sides of the box? Items shipped that can break should be packed so they can not move within the box with at least 2" of padding all around them.

There were several layers of padding on the bottom but not so much on top. A piece of glass 8x10 was one of the broken things and it was inside under a heavy photo easel wrapped in bubble wrap. I do not think there was 2" of wrap on the package other than the bottom. And there was no warning about glass on the box.

The item is part of a lot. I do not want to return the whole lot which cost $120 just the part that is broken. which is about $25-30. Do you know how eBay handles that?

When you open the SNAD, if not automatically approved, the seller will have the choice to offer a partial refund. They do not have to. They can insist on a return for refund - and they provide return shipping.
The MBG guarantees it's all or nothing.

All or nothing.

Thanks for your help. Looks like I might keep the whole lot as it was a very good deal. I think it is mostly a case of the seller being not so nice.

You can request a partial but the seller can deny that and require return for refund.
I'd say it is worth a shot, you can always drop the case later if you would rather keep the lot and replace the damaged parts on your own.
