Hello Everyone,
I was preparing a package earlier today and didn't have my scale with me to get a good weight measurement. I estimated that the package would be 2 pounds and entered the appropriate dimensions (9" x 7" x 3") and purchased my shipping label online. When I got to the USPS office I checked the weight using their self service machine and saw that I was actually at 2 pounds and 9 ounces. Since the branch is closed until Monday at 10am I ended up proceeding with dropping it into the parcel system. How far off have you guys been when sending out packages and did you run into any issues?
I saw that tonight at 7pm the package shows that it was "Accepted as USPS Origin Facility" and that it is now at the San Francisco CA Distribution Center. At this point is it safe to say the package will be delivered? At what point would the PS send it back if they don't agree with the weight on the label?

The APV will back-charge you the postage @techstuff-4-less and your package will proceed and deliver as normal.

Okay, I looked at the website for APV and it looks like it will just be handled on the end of USPS / Ebay? How long after delivery before that occurs?

Weighing my package is part of my listing routine. Everything except my media items which often get multi-item orders, remains pre-packed. I note the item, and package weight where I will attach the label. I have a pretty full schedule and list when I have time. That way no matter how busy I am shipping is merely pulling down the box, tucking in the packing slip, taping the box up and applying the label. Most days it takes longer for my printer to wake up than it does to actually ready the packages for shipping.

I had this happen once with pirateship. They charged me several days after the package was delivered.
PS
I take photos of all my packages on the scale, so I challenged that (i.e. sent the photo to pirateship) and USPS issued a refund). My package showed correct weight (below 4 oz), USPS claimed it was 13 ozs.

I did the same thing...estimated weight at 2 # and when it went to Po it was over 3. That was months ago and I was never charged. Been more careful since.

I think USPS only does "spot" checks on weight and measurements. If they figure out the weight is wrong, they usually will deliver with postage due. You might drop the buyer a line and let them know this could happen and that you will reimburse them the amount they have to pay to get delivery.

Here is what the USPS says about their APV program

I have had two discrepancies.
1st one, I don't remember the time frame for the refund. 1st Class.
The last refund message came 10 days after mailing the item. Priority. I did it as 4-5 lbs. (I weighed it at 4 lb 2 oz.) They claimed it weighed in at 3 lb 15 oz 🙂

All parcels are checked with automated equipment as they move through processing facilities.

Parcels with online postage labels should not be charged postage due to the recipient for weight/size issues that would be dealt with by the automated system.
