Why are some sellers not shipping to California? I understand the will only ship to the continental US but I see a lot of items I'm trying to buy or bid on say; " NOTICE: I will NOT ship to California, if you win the auction and an pay online and I find your address is California I will promptly cancel and refund your money. I will not ship to California! If you have a California resale/sellers license than disregard this notice." No wonder Amazon is killing it. So does anyone know what's going on with this no shipping to commiefornia stuff?

I have no idea why you directed this post to me. So many of the posts here has NOTHING to do with what the OP posted about. The seller they shared concern about is CLEARLY concerned about California Sales tax. The OP posted their EXACT statement.
But while you feel this subject is important, yes California has a whole lot of fires / natural disasters. Many have been significantly damage in one way or another because of them. And while Texas doesn't have as many fires, they certainly have other acts of God to deal with that are significant as well. I'm not at all sure how or why this thread became something to post about such things.

On another point, back in 2016 33 Postal workers were arrested for stealing thousands of mail and packages ... Mr . Lincoln ------------------
We live in Ca. but so far I haven't run across any sellers who refuse to ship here . However I am well aware of the increasing thefts among the postal workers . My husband purchased a cell phone on e bay and by the time it got here the package had been torn open and was empty . The post office admitted it was a postal worker because they wouldn't have even picked up a damaged empty package . Tulips

Of course, I'm not very fond of some of the political goings on in California and wouldn't want to live there but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't sell to the poor devils that do 7606 dennis ----------------------
You wouldn't want to live here ,, we don't want to live here and the 1000 Ca. natives that are leaving CA every single day don't want to live here either . Tulips

If the seller actually lives in California as someone stated and the listing states that the person will only sell to a Californian with a resale number my guess is the State Franchise Tax Board of California might have requested in state sales tax sometime along the way and maybe it is a reaction to that?...just a guess.

Continue this selling practice/policy and eBay will end your eBay selling career as you will earn a defect (transaction defect) for each paid for order cancellation & refund - collect too many & it is bye-bye. Might want to rethink.

@ifyouloveitOops, you caught that huh lol I thought Maryland's tax on the rain that falls onto your property was crazy, then I had the misfortune of meeting face to face Commiefornia's regulations and taxation on everything except space Aliens visiting without paying tolls.
I forgot to mention: The seller is located in California

Hi everyone, thanks so much for replying and giving additional information. Seller still says NOPE, no california buyers unless you can prove you have a California Seller's/Resale License. I wonder if the seller is secretly the US Government following 'some made up for spending taxes to keep their budget from decreasing next year' tax code.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention the seller of the US Dime (coin) who refuses to ship to California is selling FROM California.

Wow - so crazy - your either in business or not. I'll ship to you no problemo - actually last week I ship a few things to California.

But Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster! Are your package prices ever cheap! We pay over $12 for Regional (our own province and the two one each side) much more for National. And there are special rates for Isolated Communities (which makes the price of shipping food to Arctic communities shockingly high).
Even if you knock off 25% for the currency exchange.
Yeah your postal rates are expensive BUT you have the publicly funded Canadian Health Car System (LOL) plus there a lot of Canadian Doctors living here - reason more $$ (2 x LOL) and the last thing Lord Stanley's Cup seems to be staying South of teh border for ions- actually the Cup has been north of the border by bridge or tunnel where I grew up - Hockeytown USA - but we thank all y'all for Gordie Howe (3 x LOL). Recall many year ago 1968 we had a few Canadian come to our company on the south side of Chicago. The first thing these blokes did with their first two pay checks was to go out and buy the most expensive stereo system with mega amps & speakers as tall a a one story house. I asked why they bought them - we couldn't afford them. They said they are about 3 times that much in Canada. Go figure.
Have relatives (2nd cousins) in Sweden and on their first visit to the US they all bought wireless telephone hand sets (days before cell pones) They paid about $100 and all 6 of them bought one - we had a nice set for less than $40 (US). I asked why. They said they were over $600 US each in Sweden plus a pair of basic 501 Levi's were $75.00/pair. This was in about 1989. Levis weren't even $200 then adn they were good compared today's Levis.

It doesn't matter. What they are doing is against the Ebay rules. There is no legit reason to not sell to those buyers in his state. You are just dealing with a seller that refuses to learn and update themselves on the actual rules and assumes they know stuff that clearly they don't actually know.
You are better off moving along and finding another seller to purchase your coins from. This one sounds like trouble.
It is unlikely that this time next year, unless this seller updates themselves and their listings, that they will even be selling on Ebay. Eventually Ebay will catch up to them.
For those commenting about postage rates. They are horribly high to be sure, but that has NOTHING to do with why this specific buyer isn't willing to ship to anyone in the state they are located in unless they have a resale certificate. It has nothing at all to do with it and sales tax has everything to do with it.

May I ask why you do this? You give up so much money over time? Especially on all those items that you aren't shipping just plain First Class.
I was curious and looked through some of his listings (that USPS patch is really nice - the logo was really cool back then). I don't think it would make significant difference insofar as money in that what I saw is mostly smalls, and the discount isn't as great as for more spendy items. It would be a time savings mostly.

I just differ in opinion. I looked at their items sold and there were enough larger items that would allow for the seller to save significantly over going to the PO to purchase postage. Just my opinion to be sure.
