How are prepaid return shipping labels through Ebay calculated? I shipped something in a padded flat rate evelope and it is being returned. The item was over 1lbs and not media mail. When I went to pay for the return label, it was under $5 and there is no way it should have been that cheap but of course, I rolled with it. When I got the package back, it was in a much bigger, heavier box with more packing than needed. I estimate it should have cost about $12. Since Ebay somehow determined the cost of the label and charged me, will they stick with what they charged me initially or charge more based on what the actual charges would be?

Expect that you will be billed the difference.

I've never had Ebay bill me any different amount that the one I paid when I purchased the label for a return package. There has been time I've paid less than I did originally to send the package and there has been times I've paid more. I honestly don't know the answer to your question, I just know I have never had it happen.

Since ebay is not a charity, let's wait and see what they are supposed to do and what they do in the present & future.

I love when people like ed come to a post and try to give the shortest, most pessimistic answer.... seemingly just because it feels good

And not a single seller, to my knowledge, has ever reported an upcharge on an eBay return label ...
This too is my experience.
I had a return last week. I paid for Fedex Smartpost to the buyer and the return label was USPS Priority. Ebay charged me the exact same price that the Smartpost label cost.

I am not saying that you are wrong, but since you rule out any and all possibly by the certainty of argument & speculation that certainly makes it so.
We can sleep comfortably having your assurance that ebay always does what ebay is supposed to do, and what you are unaware of never takes place.

Yes, ebay has been doing so for some time, I suspect (speculation) that likely may change in future.

OK, I've waited. I've had a few returns over the course of the past several months. I've never had Ebay bill me for additional postage.
I'm not sure anyone said or suggested Ebay is a "charity". So that is a bit unfair.

You nor anyone else can predict what Ebay will do in the future. But no one here is talking about that but you.
Most of us have to deal with the here and now to run are little businesses. Speculation and concern over what Ebay may or may not do in the future is a waste of energy. Well except for those that come to the threads just to stir things up for their own entertainment.
Who's "unaware"?
