Why did I have to pay for signature confirmation?

I just printed a shipping label for a $259 item, and I had to pay for signature confirmation. I’ve shipped pricier items without signature confirmation plenty of times. Does anyone know why this happened? Did I miss an announcement? Grrrr.

 Thank you in advance.

The seller protection reuirement for signature was raised from $250 to $750 years ago.  Couldn't you just un-check it?

@nobody*s_perfect

The toggle button to un click it was disabled. I’m really baffled and miffed over this.

Thank you for replying to my query.

What shipping service did you use?  If you selected Priority mail Express, signature confirmation is included in the price, and it is checked as a default.

Ship Priority mail and add insurance - SC is free then.  And, without knowing what you shipped, the rate is often less expensive to ship via Priority than Parcel.

False.

Just to be clear, I believe that if one purchases $500 or more of USPS insurance (Priority Mail or First Class Package), then Signature Confirmation is included in the price.

Nope.

If a package is insured for more than $500, the delivery person will require that it is signed for.  This signature is not viewable as part of the tracking information.

Signature Confirmation is a separate service and is viewable as part of the tracking information.

Not exactly.  When the carrier delivers a package that is insured for over $500, he must get a signature.  But it's not the same as Signature Confirmation, and it doesn't meet the seller protection policy requirements of being trackable online.  Also, insurance can be added to any service, including Parcel Select and Media Mail.

@terrycanarsky @sam9876 I added insurance on the item. So frustrating.

What was the insurance for?

Then I am uncertain why you were required to pay for SC separately.  When we ship Priority and need extra insurance as well as a signature, I simply add the insurance amount and the SC shows a "free" (cost rolls into the insurance fee, presumably, or the general shipping rate).  We save that $2.55 or whatever it costs.

Unless you used Ship Cover insurance instead of USPS insurance.  Ship Cover always charges for SC.
