Antique Thermoplastic Union Case Daguerrotype? Size?

I have a thermoplastic union case with a photo in it. I'm not sure if it is a daguerrotype or something else. The other problem I'm having is how to list the plate size. The plate measures 2-1/4" wide by 2-5/8" tall. TIA,Kurt
