Why can't we reprint a label after 24 hours??

So I ran into an interesting scenario today. A week ago, I printed a $75 international shipping label (actually form CP72 customs declaration), and shipped a medium flat rate box from FL to Australia. Now a week later, the box gets returned to me with a USPS note on it that says the customs form is missing, and postage is due.

There are 4 pages on this customs declaration. The first 3 go to the post office, and the 4th is a customer copy, which I have. When the package was returned, the first 2 pages are missing, and only page 3 is in the clear label envelope on the package. Well, the first 2 pages (that USPS Jacksonville apparently took out of the envelope and lost!) are the ones with the postage on them. The 3rd and 4th pages say "Not Valid as proof-of-payment for US postage" in the box where the postage stamp usually is.

Now that a week has passed, I can't reprint the label (because more than 24 hrs) and I can't void the label (because more than 5 days). I took the package to the post office, and they said that I should reprint the label and they would mark it postage paid or something like that, and they would ship it again. But of course, I can't reprint the label, and I can't void it.

Note: I called Ebay and they one-time credited me for the label, so the problem is resolved. But the fundamental issue is what I'm after here. Anybody else have this problem? I'm thinking about saving all the label .pdf's from now on.

Yes, having that problem right now!!! Yes ... save a copy! Good to know eBay will cover the expense of printing another label ... thank you for sharing this!

I would like to make a suggestion here. I use to fill out those custom forms and such when I shipped internationally.  Now I avoid all that hassle by using the Global Shipping Program. It is way much easier to do. You will just print the label for the package to go to the GSP center and the rest is take care of.

It is standard procedure that the label can only be reprinted within 24 hrs and voided within 5 days. Ebay won't credit you again so the solution is to purchase the correct amount of postage/label/custom forms the first time. Why did you have 4 forms? Just curious because when Inship internationally & purchase postage online, there aren't multiple pages and nothing that goes to the PO.

The easiest way to get around this is to save the label as a Pdf before you print.  When the print screen pops up just click (usually towards the bottom) on the drop down tab and select save as pdf. Boom! Now you don't have to deal with Ebays ridiculous 24 hour rule.
