Is it a glitch?
I’ll give you an exact example—-I was looking for vintage lampshade frames
so I could fabricate a fabric cover for them
Some of the frames (I think they weigh about 1 pound each) and they are small
maybe overall about 5-7 inches in height and the shipping was $125?
Could this be correct?

If you see something that looks that far off, I would contact the seller and see if it is a mistake...
The seller sets the shipping fee when they create the listing, and sometimes they use calculated shipping and input the wrong weight or dimensions....
if the seller says it's correct, and you are uncomfortable or "know" it can't be....
Move On to another seller.
(if the TOTAL sale is way over what you feel it should be)

Packages over 1 cubic foot (1728 cubic inches) are charged at a "dimensional weight" rather than at the actual scale weight. This can quickly become an impressive amount, but $125 sounds especially high. IMHO it would be OK to ask the seller about this, particularly suggesting politely that he might want to check the dimensions entered for the package.

I wonder if your seller has added a handling fee to the listing -- a very high handling fee.
My selling ID adds handling fees, but rarely more than 50 cents - $1.00.
Buyers will not see any amount labeled specifically as a handling fee.
The shipping/postage amount that the buyers see will include any handling fee added by the seller.

Package rates go be both weight and size. A very large box with a lamp shade might weigh less than 3 pounds but would take up a lot of space in the delivery truck. So, shippers also charge by size. Once you get to what they call "over size" the shipping cost is murder.
