Did you mean:

When buying shipping labels the page is defaulting to Priority Mail

When I go to buy a shipping label Priority is always pre-selected no matter what postage I specified in the listing.  Meaning that myself and others will inevitably make the mistake of selecting the wrong shipping method when just about everything I ship is Media Mail.  This is bogus and needs to go away.   Many have been complaining about it and Ebay has not responded to this sudden problem.

Can you give us any insight?

Bump. Still trying to understand if this is a glitch or by design.

@vintage-car-magazines Trinton has moved to another role within eBay and is no longer on the Community team.

Given the shipping delays being experienced through the pandemic, we ran a test that prioritized the service that optimized both cost and delivery speed. This was a small test and we are now rolling it back thanks to seller feedback. Moving forward, the eBay team will make the messaging more prominent in the selling flow and give you the choice to select the buyer choice or the most optimized equivalent.

Thanks, Brian. That explains why he didn't reply.

Does that mean that eBay has added a "Buyer Selected" flag on the shipping method selected by the buyer while still defaulting to a faster, more expensive option?

If that's the case it doesn't really address the issue which is the service it's defaulting to. We've always had the option to select a different service but the label always defaulted to the service selected by the buyer. It's fine to suggest a potentially better option but defaulting to it is another matter.

Not applicable

Mine is back to normal, defaulting on First Class which is what all of mine are. It has been defaulting on Priority.

So I think the fix is coming around. Maybe alphabetically ? My last name starts with a "B".

@vintage-car-magazines this test was ended, so shipping should be defaulting to the buyer selected method. I don't know what or if there are any future plans based on the findings of this test.

brian@ebay Thanks for clarifying. It is indeed back to normal.

brian@ebay, I understand that you're quoting someone else by your use of italics, but that explanation is nonsense. A jump from weight-based USPS Priority ('Buyer Selected" by virtue of the fact that it was the only method offered in the listing) to FedEx Overnight is not optimizing anything at all. While it would certainly maximize delivery speed, it would do so at the highest possible cost, and skip multiple other options in doing so (not to mention using a completely different carrier).

In short, it's a programming error, nothing more and nothing less. The fact that it took this long to roll back, plus the fact that the coding error for package dimensions is still in effect (specifying the Length as Height and Height as Length) shows that whoever is responsible for Engineering testing and QA is seriously falling down on the job.

No, it's not defaulting to the buyer selected method. It just started happening for me today.

Re: When buying shipping labels the page is defaulting to Priority Mail

Yes....this suddenly changed for me and I mistakenly purchased a USPS Priority label for $49.50 and immediately voided it and still waiting for my refund. I buy all labels through eBay and mainly ship through FedEx which ALWAYS showed as the top label choice because most buyers choose that ship method because of ship savings. I am more careful now, and it seems that it has gone back to the way it was, but this was very deceptive and if I don't receive the refund in another 5 days, I will contact eBay Logistics. I never understand why they make changes like this that are only going to cause sellers headaches and make us spend more time trying to fix things than using our valuable time to list items!! GRRRRRR
