Weather Preventing Shipping on Time (HELP!)

I sold a product, but I'm unable to make it to the post office safely to ship it out due to a winter storm. Will there be any consequences if its a day or two late to ship? My printer isn't working to print off the shipping label so I need to do it at the post office, and I'm worried if I don't ship it on the day it needs to ship, the order may be cancelled or I may be penalized. Is there something I can do?

eBay is usually lenient with situations like this, but you never know. You can go to Seller News> Announcements at the top of this page and see if anything has been posted about it. To be safe, I'd contact the buyer and let him/her decide if they want to cancel the sale or are willing to wait.

Weather Preventing Shipping on Time (HELP!)

Usually eBay announces their weather-related accommodations after they see the full long-term impact, so don't panic if there's no announcement immediately.  This storm is so huge and is affecting so many people, even the staff in sunny San Jose are bound to notice it.

The worst that will happen is that your account will get a little ding for a late shipment. There will be no defect point or automatic cancellation.  I would not ask the buyer if they want to cancel, unless this drags out in your area and you can't ship by the end of the week.  You can void an unused eBay postage label up to 5 days after purchase.

Around here I get a lot of packages in mailboxes with the money to pay for postage (I have a lot of Amish). It isn't a problem for me. Most rural areas are like this.  But as others have pointed out eBay usually allows for weather delays.

If you think youwill be several days before you can ship you could send your buyer a curtsy message. Let them know it is packed up and ready to ship but you are snowed in.

That announcement was 5 days ago, about a different storm and a different affected area.

I'm in south central KY and tried to go to our PO twice today- it never opened for counter service. I was able to scan through the APC all but one package that is high dollar, signature required. FedEx has also missed two pickup requests for a larger item. I'll have to spend my lunch break tomorrow hauling the FedEx package to their terminal and if the downtown PO is still closed, go to the local sorting center on the other side of town for the other.

@68barbie

I think you may have messed up if you think that APC scan will work as an acceptance scan it does not.  Here is what the APC screen says in my PO!

APC - scan.png

That is only a "preliminary scan" the true acceptance scan only comes IF they scan the items when they clear out the bin.  But with the PO being so overworked, we are seeing many reports where those scans are not being made and sellers only get a "first scan" at a sorting center.  That hurts on time shipping seller metrics.

The APC is preliminary as it would be impractical for the USPS to consider it an acceptance.  I could insure a package, print a label, scan it at the APC as "accepted" and them walk out the door with the package and later file an insurance claim!  So unless USPS figures out how to put a scanner into the drop boxes, the APC scan will only be preliminary.

I am aware of the limitations of the APC pre-scan and have had no issues with it- yet. Heck, I previously had zero issues with tossing my packages in the parcel box before they even offered the pre-scan service! However, I do have enough sense to not drop a high-dollar, signature requested package in there and brought the package back home.

Same here. Sold 3 items on Sunday and Monday was presidents day . Couldn't do anything cause our power went out for 36hrs and didn't have no phone signal cause of the winter storm. Power just recently came back on. Messaged the buyers that there's some delay due to the weather, they haven't responded.

Yep. No mail yesterday, none today, probably none until at least Saturday. The roads are closed here, three inches of solid ice and more on the way later this afternoon and tonight. Everything is closed.

It was in single digits yesterday but got everybodys mail delivered except Mrs Caps who has a handicaped dismount up at the top of her steep driveway. Not even footprints on her unplowed drive. When the previous postmaster and she talked he said that I couldn't go up if it was unplowed. It took a couple days last storm. If it looks the same today I'll call for a wellness check, but there is a Amish girl that cleans for her several days a week and Betty isn't so independant as to try to walk around outside in this.
