I have dropped off a media mail that never been scanned into the system. I checked with post office, and they have no idea where my item could be at. At this point, I just want my item back and not have it ship. So my question is, If I void the label, will they send the item back (if they happen to find my mail after I voided the label) ?
thanks in advance for advice

If I had to guess, voiding the label would mean it still arrives to the addressee, but with postage due.
When you open a lost/missing package case with USPS, you can tell them where you want the package to go (back to sender, to the addressee, etc.) when/if it gets found.

If the label gets scanned into the system, then USPS would decline your request to void the label. That's why there's a delay of 2 - 3 weeks before USPS approves the credit for a void request.

How long you have to void a shipping label depends on the shipping service you used.
Once a label is scanned into the USPS system you can't void it.
