Vacation mode lead to significant decrease in shipping rate

I'm a little ticked as I have apparently  misunderstood how the vacation mode settings work.   I was out of the office for 2 days and set my vacation mode accordingly thinking that my "

Tracking uploaded on time and validated"  rate would not be effected.   I was at 99.8% and work my butt off to maintain that number.  Knowing I would be away for the two days, I turned my store to vacation mode.   I discovered however, that being in vacation mode only hurts you.    I am furious.   Ebay even includes a note to the buyer stating that seller is on vacation and the shipment may be delayed.   BAM I am now at a 97.75% rating.   With everything set up as it was, why am I being penalized!  I even came in the night of my return (day 2) to do my shipments until 1 am and still I am hit with this decrease.   What a waste of time!  What am I missing here?

The basic vacation sdtting is merely an "Away" message.  eBay still expects you to ship within the handling time that is stated in the listing. So to  protect your on-time-shipping numbers, you must either (1) revise your handling time; or (2) select the option to block sales.

Yes, this is completely illogical.  The vacation settings were set up long ago before eBay had any seller evaluation that was based on shipping time.

Thank you for the explanation.  I had never used it in all the years I've been selling on here and had no idea.  Yes so illogical and I didn't want to cut off sales either.  I must have just missed the cut off for shipping.  I'll review my reports to see so I will know for the future.  UGH ... well lesson learned.  Thank you again!

That stinks!! So many come to the boards stating the same thing
Here is a screen shot if you go for a period that you want to Hide them
Also if you run Auctions  those have to be ended or be set up to end upon your return.

Many sellers just use the Vacation option not knowing like you & not looking the info up , but it does show in the help page

Tip
If you decide not to hide your fixed price listings, make sure you can still meet your stated handling and shipping times. Consider extending the handling time on your listings — you can do this on the Active selling page on My eBay.

I really wish ebay would add that tip on the vacation set up page so sellers can easily see this important detail.   Few look up things that seem clear and do not know there is something they do not know...until it is too late.
