I was under the impression that in January the USPS rates would decrease, and that the last increase, a few months back was for the holidays so the money grubbers could make a few extra dollars.

The schedule goes:
Oct. 5th - Holiday Surcharge Applied
Jan. 18th - Holiday Surcharge Removed
Also Jan. 18th - January Bi-Annual Rate Adjustment Applied
Essentially, they just get to raise their rates 3 months earlier now in the Fall/ Winter.

I guess get used to it. I doubt I will live long enough to see any rate decrease by any carrier. With inflation running around 3% per year, rates will continue climbing.
Just have to adjust our shipping charges.

You do realize that the "moneygrubbers" you are referring to would be the USPS?
12-30-2025 05:23 AM
Yes. The USPS is who I was referring to.

Those "moneygrubbers" aren't making any money. They are losing billions every year.

Reminds me of my bosses wife at the store I used to work at.
She would raise prices right before a sale, so the new sale price would be the same (or more) than the old price.

I agree...it's so annoying ,soon it will cost 10.00 to ship a 1 oz item...ridiculous.

Definitely annoying. But the majority of things continue to go up. My property taxes went up 8% this year. Lean ground beef is now $11 per pound where I live. Average car price is now over $50,000........ And on and on it goes.

If you think USPS are "money grubbers" then why don't you use UPS or Fedex instead?
I am willing to bet there is a good reason for that.

Hang on to your hat, it could get worse in 2027. USPS put in a request to the board of governors to remove rate increase caps and let them raise rates as the market defines anytime during the year.

What gave you that impression?
If it was not the USPS page announcing an increase in January, you were probably not getting the best information from the best source.
