I purchase a shipping label yesterday afternoon after 4:30. The USPS would not accept my package today because it had yesterday's date on it. They told me it was because people were re-using labels to mail packages with. I pointed out that I was the one who purchased the label and I was the one mailing it but they still would not accept it. I had to void the label and purchase another one with today's date on it. I have never had this problem before. Now I have to hope that my postage from yesterday will be refunded. Has anyone else experienced this?

I consider the PO a valued colleague in my business. I would be nothing without them. Anything I can do to help them in their business is important to me and the success of my eBay store. Once the rational was explained to me (and now confirmed) I make the effort to do it right.

Just drop it in the blue box next time

you can not ship packages in the blue box since 9/11...............packages have to be brought into post office or given to mail person.

The only limit on what can go into the blue box (other than whether it fits through the slot) is that if you have paid for the postage in stamps, there is a weight limit of 10 ounces and a thickness limit of 1/2 inch.
But if you have an purchased your postage online, then you are a "known shipper" and there is no weight limit. Some Post Offices don't like their boxes getting filled up with packages, so they make up policies to limit them.
Here's a FAQ from USPS:

I print my labels whenever it gets paid for. Since most of listing end at noon my time they go out the next day. The Postal Pick driver up never looks, just grabs everything in my outbox. All were purchased online through eBay and taped on. Never have had any problems

I will to. I love the peeps at my PO and they tell me how difficult the quota's are.

"Stale" mail, when discovered in the mailstream has a current postmark applied for just that purpose, but it is labor-intensive. That is why they prefer to cut it off at the point of acceptance. Neither option is perfect. You don't have to do 38 years to know you can't please everyone.

I have an excellent relationship with my postmaster at my local PO. If I EVER have an issue with a clerk or carrier, he handles it for me immediately. I even have arrangements to leave UPS and Fedex items at the P.O. for pick up if I need.
I am one of his largest shippers in his area. I need his end to work smoothly and believe I help cover one of his metrics with my quantity of packages. I try my best to do work with him to make sure everything is as smooth as possible.
I highly suggest trying to get to know your Post master. This may be harder in more populous areas but, it has been a true benefit several times.

...just for your information...
1- any re-printed shipping label has up to 10 calendar days to use or it will be voided on the 11th day...this is USPS rules...
2- when you void or cancel your shipping label through eBay shipping system, it will take from 10 days up to 2 weeks for the refund credits back to your payment account, not any shorter than that because it has to be verified from the USPS system...this #2 confirms #1 stated above about the time frame for a shipping label to be used or not...
3- file a complaint case online with USPS against that clerk...make sure you get enough of his/her information as personal name, the PO address, time of the incident...
4- go to the other PO if you could, or else just handle the package to your mail carrier and make sure he/she scans as "Prepaid Acceptance" right in front of you...
...you know that when seller issues returned shipping label, buyer can not ship out the item immediately the day that label was issued...so your matter is unrealistic...that clerk was simply just being very unprofessional...
...I hope you live near by our PO...

I hate to tell you this but you are wrong.

This happened to me about 4 months ago. I let them take the item anyway which it was scanned by the postal contribution center. It took 2 weeks to get to my customer. Thank goodness my customer did not complain. The reason being was because they do not scan any packages next day as to when they were shipped. Apparently this will make the mailing location look bad as if they are holding packages which is illegal. They have to get everything scanned day of when they come into their location.
Lesson learned. If I know I can't make the mailing room to drop off a package I just purchase the item next day.

The best way around this is to date the postage for a day or two ahead. When you print your shipping label, there's a drop down box with dates (i.e. ship today, ship tomorrow etc..). The PO has never given me any trouble with "future dating" postage.
I've had my packages rejected for this same reason. I have heard the argument that it looks bad for their service metrics. My question to the PO is...How hard is this issue to resolve? All they need to do is to state to the customer "We are only responsible for when the label was scanned until it was delivered. Fair enough for me.
Lastly - Wouldn't it be nice for all the PO's to be on the same page with the same policies..or at least clearly written policies for different districts. Rationales would be nice too.
It's ridiculous for us (the customers) to have to take our packages to a "nicer" P,O. How about some standards of service instead. -Sorry for the mini rant. Best Wishes.
