I'm a relatively new seller and I have an item with tracking stuck on "pre-shipping" even though I dropped it off with USPS last Thursday (6/10/21). Is this a pretty common issue/when should I start to worry?
I dropped off the box with a prepaid label (thoroughly taped on of course) on their counter. I even dropped another item off at the same time and it had no issues.

I never even bother to follow a package once I drop it off at the post office (or Fedex). Only after a buyer notifies me of an INR do I look at tracking, and that happens only rarely, maybe once a year at most. Despite tracking glitches I find USPS, despite being currently run by an acolyte of The Destroyer, remains an incredibly efficient organization.

Package now shows out for delivery, they scanned it when it arrived at the final location before delivery I guess. Lesson learned, I will wait in line and get my receipts!
Thanks everyone for responding, it's good to know that there are so many people willing to help on here.

In the future it is critical you have USPS scan each package at acceptance. Luckily your buyer is cooperative and understanding.
Sometimes when the package doesn't get scanned, the buyer opens an ebay INR case and you will have to refund. Then they leave a valid negative feedback (seller never shipped, waste of time) and you get a defect from eBay for not shipping on time.
Now you have no item, no money, negative feedback and a defect on your account.
Scan each and every package.

Our firm always brings prepaid packages to the post office counter to be scanned in by an employee. Not receiving proof of mailing subjects you to risk of theft or other loss that will NOT be covered by any insurance issuer.

@northwest_picker_llc Exactly, not to mention it is one of the few protections Sellers are afforded.

I work for USPS and I have a pretty good idea why this happens. Your barcode label is unscannable. Either wrinkled/damaged or missing some lines due to a faulty printer. It still goes through the transit process but it’s not until it reaches the arrival post office when a mail carrier will manually type in the barcode numbers upon delivery. The distribution plants don’t have time to manually type in every package that comes through the system with this issue. But it does get delivered to the correct location.
