Hi Fellow eBay Sellers! Help!

This morning I purchased a shipping label through eBay for a hat that I sold yesterday. We are located in Hawaii. Hat was getting mailed to Texas.

After packaging up all of yesterday's sales, I noticed that the hat was still showing-up as "Awaiting Shipment".

So I went to the USPS website to make sure that the tracking number I just received from eBay was valid and the craziest thing happened! It showed up on USPS as a used tracking number... for an item that was sent from Salt Lake City Utah and delivered to Florida?! Here's the even weirder thing... the time that I purchased the label just happens to be the same time that it was "delivered" in Florida.

I quickly cancelled that label, and created/paid for a new label... then took all my packages to the post office. The post office lady scanned it and everything seemed ok.

A couple hours later I came home to find that the hat is still showing up as "Awaiting Shipment". So, I went to the USPS website -again- and entered the newly printed tracking number... and it says that it was delivered to Salinas California! Again, tracking shows that it originated in Salt Lake City Utah and was "delivered" at the exact same time that I purchased the label here in Hawaii.

I am totally stumped. How can eBay sell us a label that was already used? All of my other labels today were fine. Could it be that Pitney Bowes was hacked and is messing with the connection with eBay?

Any ideas how to figure this out? USPS has the hat... but I have no idea what is going to happen to it.

this issue is happening to a lot of people today with labels purchased thru ebay. It's not unheard of that old tracking numbers get recycled but never this fast. Hopefully your package still gets to the buyer normally. Let your buyer know there is a problem with the labels and may show delivered when it's not.

People who have caught this early advise to buy labels at the PO or on pirateship for the time being, and called CS to void & refund labels for them when can't via the website

I had the same issue. EBay will probably be well aware of this issue soon being that multiple people have already complained about this issue. I called EBay and received a ticket number. Your package is on its way just without proper tracking. I would advise you to call EBay explain the situation and get a ticket number so that eventually EBay will remove the defect on your seller level.

There are numerous posts on this issue and people have contacted eBay.

The best thing we can do on the forum is Thumbs up and consolidate findings on a main thread so the conversation isn't fractured, and so people are more likely to find the more definitive post.

This earlier thread has the most traction, so please thumbs up that post and stay tuned for updates.

Hopefully we'll get an eBay moderator to see that thread and give more information.

This happened to me too! Buyer said he didn't receive the item. I can't track the item because the other tracking number took precedence. My local postal service worker told me that packages with reused tracking numbers have invalid postage and would be considered "dead". Did your item get delivered properly? eBay won't help me blaming usps and vice versa. Looks like I'm out the cost of the item ($50)
