USPS Overcharge Error

Hi. My eBay account was charged by USPS error claiming a single pair of underwear weighed almost 2 pounds. The charge doesn’t even match what the cost of postage would be if it weighed that. I’m assuming this is an AI error. Is the hassle of contacting the post office and waiting for the funds to be returned going to become the norm?  Anyone know an easier way to fix this or have a better explanation?
Thanks

USPS Overcharge Error

I had a similar experience recently where they claimed my package weighed 16lbs, but it was a women's suit that weighed just under 2lbs. I used the link on the message you were sent to do a dispute, and I was refunded the money. It only took a few minutes to do the dispute, and my refund came through within a couple of days.

I don't know how they are determining these additional weights; someone on one of these boards said there might have been 2 packages stuck together on the scale when they scanned it...

I don't know what information they use to determine the dispute, though. I took my package to the post office where it was weighed and scanned in, so I had a receipt showing the exact weight. I'm not sure if this was why it was determined in my favor or not.

I think its like Chicago does, mail out a whole bunch of bogus traffic and parking tickets because they know that some will just pay up

This is out of eBay's hands, they have no say in whether or not the adjustment is correct or not. USPS will make this determination.

I see a link provided in one of your pictures, I suggest you use it. You will most likely end up providing the same screenshots that you have provided here to state your case.

First, for $3.86 it is not worth the time and aggravation to deal with the issue.  I got a similar adjustment from USPS last year and am still awaiting a reply from USPS.

This happens all the time @intimatesinc when two packages are piggybacking on each other as they are scanned at the check points.

Fill out the form on the link provided - only takes a minute. USPS will review photos of the package when it was scanned and they should see the error and credit your account.

@intimatesinc

Instead of using the on-line dispute form, use the phone number attached to the email which should have been included in the email which you had received.

The same exact situation happened to me several years ago, and I used the phone number, rather than appealing on-line.  I was eventually connected to a HUMAN BEING (!!!), who listened to my problem, and suggested that my package may have somehow become attached to a bigger and heavier package.  She informed me that she would open up an appeal in my name, using the the case number attached to the USPS email; and, if the investigation found in my favor, I would receive a refund within a few days.

A few days later, I received a refund.

Pick up the phone and call USPS -- don't trust the on-line appeal form, which is too open to AI interpretation.

It probably wasn't so-called "AI", your package probably just stuck to another larger package when it went through the system and you were charged for the weight of both packages, it happens sometimes.

Open the dispute link and fight it, definitely don't forfeit the 3.86. I have had this happen, and using the dispute link worked fine, and I was refunded the overcharge promptly.
