Today I found out that my local USPS office is about a week behind on origin scanning my packages (Cleveland). I used to go to the clerk at the office and have them scanned, but I was asked to use the drop off bin due to the long lines. That was a mistake. See picture. This package was dropped off on December 9th, but it wasn't even scanned at my local facility until December 16th.
I'm sure many of you are in the same boat. Protect yourself. Get those packages scanned at the counter. I'm already getting questions about why I haven't sent out packages yet. Ebay needs to know that this is a real issue.

Ask to talk to the Postmaster at that location. If you request a scan receipt, they have to give you one. That is part of their job. Being a busy time of the year is NO excuse.. Call that post office and speak to the Postmaster about it. Get the employees name. They do wear ID badges with their first name only. I had the same thing happen at a post office that a I rarely use. The lady who would not scan my package got told about it. The next time I stopped there and I made sure I got in her line and asked for a receipt. She handed one over without question. She definitely remembered me.

I buy & sell and currently am waiting for a purchase to get scanned in at a Florida USPS. Seller stated they dropped it on 12/10 with priority mail, and it still hasn't been scanned in or anywhere along the route. Sad thing is, I had two other packages ship from the same region in Florida (just coincidence) with Priority Mail after 12/10 that have already showed. Everyone that is using Priority should be getting 10-20% back since they aren't even coming close to the expected delivery date for many packages. I figure I'll wait until ~12/28 to file the package as undelivered if it is lost. I hope they fully insured it.

Q: The origin scan is the location that I dropped it off at. And I had a conversation with the manager today.
A: This may be important or useless trivia, my fellow greater Clevelander. In October I was running late and took the packages to the Post Office at the airport. The scans showed acceptance at my local Post Office, whose zip code I had used when creating the labels.

Right; that's the standard tracking history when the PO at the airport doesn't bother to do Acceptance scans. The package will get an Origin Acceptance when it makes its way to an origin sort facility, and the reported location will be the ZIP you have on the label, not the location of the sort facility.
