USPS Didn’t Scan Packages

So I’m a newer seller on eBay and am experiencing some new difficulties. I dropped two packages off at my local post office’s drop box, but they were never scanned. I updated my buyers because I wanted them to know that I had indeed shipped the items and the PO wasn’t “awaiting package” like the tracking said. Well one of the two packages I dropped off has now been delivered and the tracking still says “Shipped” and “USPS Awaiting item”. Once the expected arrival date comes, will this be considered late due to the tracking still saying shipped and not delivered? Please help. It’s very odd that the package delivered was not scanned once during the shipping process, but i received an email from the buyer saying it arrived.

Re: USPS Didn’t Scan Packages

Next time, wait in line at the post office and have the clerk scan your items by asking for a receipt.

This way it shows you actually delivered it to the post office and ensures scans will be tracked.

If you're sending by Media Mail, it is considered low priority and may not be scanned for a week or more before being sent out.

This happens to me a lot, and I end up having a hard time reaching top rated seller status because it affects my seller statistics.

Re: USPS Didn’t Scan Packages

I know it's not convenient, but I always stand in line to have them scan the packages in front of me.  If nothing is scanned before the end of your handling time it can affect your Seller Status.  You can look at your Seller Dashboard (a link inside your feedback ratings) to see if eBay already marked you down for not having a carrier scan within your handling time.

You're lucky you had a honest buyer that didn't try to take advantage of the fact that there were no scans and file an Item Not Received claim making you refund them, even though they actually got your package.  When these blips happen, I try not to point them out to buyers for that exact reason.  I know they will contact me if they don't get the package.

USPS is currently having issues with package deliveries and scans, so at this point I would do what you need to do to get at least that first carrier scan that they are in possession of the package.

Re: USPS Didn’t Scan Packages

Yes I usually wait in line I was just only able to drop off after hours earlier this week.

My biggest concern is that the item delivered, and was never scanned. Now there is no way a scan can occur, so how will eBay ever recognize the item delivered?

Re: USPS Didn’t Scan Packages

Every package I have shipped for the past 15 years has been scanned by our local PO whether I stood in line or not.  This week 3 were not scanned.  I called our postmistress and she could not understand it.  She eventually called back and said one of their small scanners was broken, apologized and is following up on  the scanned packages.  Have my  fingers crossed that they get scanned along the way.

Re: USPS Didn’t Scan Packages

This has been an ongoing problem.  Even if they scan all your packages when you drop them off,  some still may not show any updates until they are out for delivery.   I ship around 300 packages a month through USPS and this has happened numerous times in the last 4-5 months.  Ebay has been removing them from my service metrics as part of their "seller protections" so they have not affected my seller level.

Scan them, I'm lucky when they deliver them to the correct address.
