Tired of Buyer Return Because She Did Not Like the Dress Despite Photos and Details

Listing detailsListing detailsI listed a JCrew dress with 6 photos: 3 from actual dress that I had in my closet and 3 from stock photos with models. I also listed waist size, dress length, and chest (armpit to armpit) size and other details. The buyer open a return because "the dress is too big and too long." The dress length is 41" and it is clearly stated on the listing. I don't understand why she bought it then. Ebay's automatic return approval does not help sellers who honestly listed the items either.  A lot of buyers just take this advantage, just order the clothes and return it if clothes don't fit like ordering from big retailers but lots of eBay sellers are not big retailers. Sellers seem always to be on a losing end.

You have a return accepted policy.  That buyer chose to return it.  What's the issue?  They are paying for the return.

Automatic returns are granted when the seller has a return policy and the seller opens a buyer's remorse return.

What does "honestly listed" have to do with it?

What is the buyer taking advantage of?

I don't like getting returns either, but I have an RA policy and that's how it works.

I understand the frustration, but "big retailers" don't offer generous return policies because they have too much money: they do it because they believe it will increase sales more than enough to cover the expenses of accepting a few returns.

You have that same return policy.  Hopefully you are experiencing the positive side of it as well as the negative.

Re: Tired of Buyer Return Because She Did Not Like the Dress Despite Photos and Details

Maybe I am an odd one here. I bought clothes on eBay many times and made sure the measurements fit me before buying. If there are no measurement listed on the listings, I contacted buyers and asked for them. As a result, I have never return clothes buying from eBay. Maybe I am a type that if I am not sure if it fits, I don't buy it. So when I experience someone just bought clothes and return like it is no big deal, it is just not the way I am used to.

Plus, ebay charges me for pre-paid return shipping label so I paid for the return even though the dress is free shipping. If I don't offer free return, I will lose 20% seller discount from Ebay . It might seems little but it adds up quickly by the end of the month.  Big retailers (Macy's, Nordstrom, Target, etc.) sell the return items to liquidators so they can get money back even though they don't resell the items. After reading many topics here, it seems this type of incident happen occasionally. I have to rethink about selling clothes on eBay.

That's the point we're trying to make.

This isn't an "incident."  The buyer is following your return policy.  How much have you saved over the year with that TRSP discount?  Does it outweigh your losses for accepting returns?  Does having the return policy boost your sales?

The TRSP discount is only 10%.

Very shortly the TRSP discount will require Free Returns too (read the Spring Seller Update)

Are you sure you were charged for the label?  The listing was "buyer pays return shipping"

Unfortunately for sellers, clothes need to be tried on and the law makes this possible. This was established way before the internet with Catalogues. Those who choose to sell clothes via distance selling, need to accept that the buyer has 14 days to send it back for any reason whatsoever and this is UK law not just ebay's rules.

They do however have to pay for return postage. If the item is faulty or Not as Described, then that's different and the seller has to pay return postage.

The OP is in the US & we have no such law. Her return policy is what matters here. Perhaps you thought you were on the UK site.
