Strange priority mail rates in bulk shipping.

Since the USPS rate change, I've noticed some odd things in bulk shipping.   I'm all for discounts but the rates seemed low.  Not putting dimensions in for priority mail leaves it defaulted at 1x1x1... Which is one amount.. I change it to 12x8x10 and I get a slightly higher amount although that's still withing the window of priority mail without any dimsensional charge.    Anyone clued into what's going on with this?  I'm not so much complaining because or seller discount is very nice right now it seems.  Just looking to make sure I don't get hit on the back end in adjustments  and to figure out why the calculations vary like that.

Re: Strange priority mail rates in bulk shipping.

eBay recently introduced Cubic rates for Priority Mail (up to .5 cu ft) and Ground Advantage (up to 1 cu ft).  So when you calculate shipping, they will show you whichever is lower -- the regular rate or the Cubic rate.  IMHO eBay should show both rates, just as they will show both the regular and the flat box rates,  so sellers don't get confused.

In your example, you'll see the .1 cu ft rate for that 1x1x1 box. and the .6 cu ft rate for the 12x8x10 box.

eBay has decided that calculated shipping will just show the postage cost for whichever rate is lower, the Cubic or the regular rate.  IMHO they should show the regular and Cubic rates separately, just as they show the rates for both regular boxes and flat rate boxes.  A LOT of sellers have not been entering accurate box dimensions in their listings and will be underpaying (or even overpaying) for their postage labels if they don't correct the dimensions.

I don't know what that post means since it was explained in the first responses you got, but when I saw how this was working, I figured many sellers wouldn't know about the change and will get hit will postage due down the line.

It was explained above. Which part doesn't make sense to you?

Bottom line: enter accurate dimensions and weight when you purchase labels, and you shouldn't have to worry about USPS cost adjustments after the fact unless it's a USPS error, in which case you can appeal.
