Sold a new and perfectly fine item and buyer wants a return claiming it was defective

I sold a keyboard and mouse, both in aperfectly good condition and the buyer asks for a refund claiming that the keyboard does not work and that they contacted Logitech about it. I listed the product with no returns and when I asked for proof that the product is defective, the buyer still hasn't sent proof of the item being defective. Should I wait and let ebay sort this out? Will the buyer win this case because of the ebay money back guarantee or will I get to a mark and banned off ebay but still end up accepting the return.

The item may have been damaged internally during shipping weather it was new or used. Even if your listing stated no returns how would you like to receive an item that was advertised as working and it did not work? I personally would have ebay send him a label and then make a determination. Putting the buyer out to prove item is defective is a bad idea, not all buyers are scammers. The last time we were scammed was by a seller.

Your neg on that sale came from someone with feedback on 280 transactions. And you have feedback on three. Just sayin.

1.  If the buyer  opens an Item Not As Described case for this purchase eBays MBG  trumps your "no returns" policy.

2.  You  cannot prove the buyer received the item in working order.  The buyer has already left you a neg.  FB claiming it  wasn't in working order & contacted the manufactuer

3.  Also you did misrepresent the item as being "NEW other"  when  in fact it was used.   You descibe this it as being VERY CLOSE to new and has only been used for less than a week.  That description means it is Used.

4.  It is best you advise the buyer, in a busness like manner,  "return for refund" and send them a return lable at your cost.  Should the buyer get eBay involved in settling this issue you will earn a defect on your relatively new selling account - not a good thing.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but the buyer doesn't have to prove anything. eBay can't examine the item, to see who is right, so they will accept the buyer's word if the buyer says it is defective.

You don't have to take the return if you don't want to pay for return shipping for something that probably can't be resold, but you will have to provide a full refund. You need to resolve the case itself, so that you will get the Final Value Fees back, and you won't get a defect on your seller performance.

Buyer is always right even if they are wrong.  Your probably just gonna need to bend over & give the item away. eBay policy has you cornered. It's lose your seller account or lose your item.

eBay can be a buyers gift horse while sellers are simply the sacificial victim to these hair brained policy schemes.

The buyer will win the case. If you do not resolve the case with the buyer you will get a defect on your account. So your best bet is to select the return for refund option and issue them a shipping label at your expense.

You cannot prove that the item arrived damaged and the fact is that you lied in your description.

Your item specifics conflict with your actual description so it will be a no-brainer for the eBay bots to the side in favor of the buyer.

Both of those will happen. If you have multiple "defects" on your account, you may be banned.

I realize that some buyers are scammers, and some claim "defective" to avoid having to pay for return shipping, but far too many sellers insist that there's no way their electronic component/glass collectible/etc. could have been damaged in shipping.

Accept the return.

Oh and just how do you expect the buyer to prove that the keyboard is defective that one is pretty hard to prove..

The OP is a Newbie  seller  and   the item  he sold  would get him or her target by a scam buyer.

I'm sorry you are having this problem.  But the Ebay Money Back Guarantee overrides your no returns policy.  On almost every page, (check your ended listing to see this) the logo is there, get the item you ordered or your money back.  Include purchase price and original shipping.

Buyer opens a not as described case, and you pay return shipping.

There isn't any way they can send you proof that the keyboard isn't working, sorry.

Don't wait and let Ebay sort this out.  They expect you to do that, and if you don't, I'm sorry but you will get a very serious defect that might cost you your selling privileges.
