So where do I go from here...FedEx Overcharge.
So, I shipped a snowboard a few states away...Buyer paid approx $18....I shipped approx $17....using eBay FedEx calculated shipping.
Okay, I know I may be beating a dead horse here....but I just received an invoice from eBay for over $45 FedEx shipping for that item. Note eBay is the primary shipper here not FedEx.....FedEx will refer you always back to eBay. I have to adjust my spreadsheet from a $25 profit to a loss of $8....Research shows that receiving a refund from eBay is slim to none.....I also know dimensional rates, not oversized......eBay needs to fix this 7 year issue with larger items shipped via FedEx. I just want to inform other eBay partners to be aware of the calculated FedEx up charges. Sure, one can remove eBay from being the primary shipper & ship from the FedEx retail counter.....here you will lose travel time, counter wait time & higher rates albeit more accurate. This isn't really an option for me. Also this is not the first time this has happened. If eBay is not going to fix this issue, then what are my options? I cannot think of one....I have two business account, (my wife & I) for over 18 years. Not rookies.
Not looking for a refund.....but being proactive, it seems the only solution is to remove all of are existing FedEx Calc ship listings & move to a different platform. Happening today.....Next is to not source larger items until this is fixed.....
I think this is a fair solution for eBay partners....please fix this eBay!

Are you informed of this extra charge? Through the eBay system or email?
Or do you have to check yourself?
Thanks for your replies.

You were close on your guess....screenshots enclosed. 2,200 cubic inches....5 lb weight. It is oversize of the 1,728 CI.
However, is the bigger question.....Why does not eBay use my dimensions & weight to more accurately formulate a cost? Why are they so far off, in some cases? Surcharges, etc cannot be that far off. If my numbers calculate oversize..then is that figured in their algorithm. Creating the listing, only hurts the seller.
I am still not convinced one should use these services...looks like to me eBay does not factor the over 1 cubic foot....as others may have eluded here.....This may be the answer. Thank You Bro

Thank You for the input...we are very careful, always round up, even if a fraction over.

30 to 60 days then we receive the invoice...a message is included, in the next one to three days eBay will deduct from your bank account if there is not enough funds in your pending funds. An appeal will not stop the funds from removal....you will most likely be denied by my research by eBay.

There are triggers for additional handling fees from weighing over 50 pounds or dimensional weight where they assign a mass to your box size and if it’s over 50 it triggers, or if you don’t use a box, or the package is irregular shaped, it goes on and on. Fedex is harsher than ups on the surcharges.

I wonder what the advantage to eBay of doing it this way. Why stick it to sellers. It makes no sense.
I suggest bringing it up on eBay Community Chat, offered up most Wednesdays from 1-2PM eBay time.
Yours is a relatively low difference. Some sellers have been assessed 100s of dollars after the fact. (of course, that means nothing to your situation)
Hopefully if enough sellers keep bringing it up, eBay will make some changes to where, in the very least, the shipping calculator warns sellers more boldly when a shipping charge is only an estimate and what actual shipping is likely to be.

I had similar problems for a long time. This solution I'm about to say may not apply to everyone's problems with FedEx uncharging above ebay invoice, but it may help some. I recently was told by my FedEx store (Kinkos) that any package that is not square or rectangular (ie right angle corners and flat sides) has to be hand carried through part of its processing system somewhere in the FedEx system and at that point is charged extra for the extra handling. They suggested we always put rounded or irregularly shaped items into another box that is rectangular or cube shaped. We sell a lot of posters and always shipped in tubes and started getting these large extra charges from FedEx weeks after sending. Now we put the tubes into a long square box before sending. Hope this helps some other sellers.

Before I learned how to use calculated shipping, I assumed that my buyer lived in the west coast and since I am in east coast, my shipping was always the higher amount. I would give partial refunds when the buyers were also on the east coast since the price difference was a few dollars, not cents.

Occasionally I sell items that fall into the oversize package category. I calculate the dimensional weight before listing my item because I don't want to be hit with that surprise nasty surcharge.
As an example, I recently listed an item where the shipping dimensions were 28" x 20" x 8". The actual package weight was 17 lbs. However, the calculated dimensional weight for both UPS and Fedex was 33 lbs.
Whenever you are shipping an oversize parcel you have to list the dimensional weight unless the actual weight of the parcel is higher in your listing in order for eBay's shipping calculator to charge the buyer accurately.
I use the web site below to calculate dimensional weight.
