So where do I go from here...FedEx Overcharge.

So, I shipped a snowboard a few states away...Buyer paid approx $18....I shipped approx $17....using eBay FedEx calculated shipping.

Okay, I know I may be beating a dead horse here....but I just received an invoice from eBay for over $45 FedEx shipping for that item. Note eBay is the primary shipper here not FedEx.....FedEx will refer you always back to eBay. I have to adjust my spreadsheet from a $25 profit to a loss of $8....Research shows that receiving a refund from eBay is slim to none.....I also know dimensional rates, not oversized......eBay needs to fix this 7 year issue with larger items shipped via FedEx. I just want to inform other eBay partners to be aware of the calculated FedEx up charges. Sure, one can remove eBay from being the primary shipper & ship from the FedEx retail counter.....here you will lose travel time, counter wait time & higher rates albeit more accurate. This isn't really an option for me. Also this is not the first time this has happened. If eBay is not going to fix this issue, then what are my options? I cannot think of one....I have two business account, (my wife & I) for over 18 years. Not rookies.

Not looking for a refund.....but being proactive, it seems the only solution is to remove all of are existing FedEx Calc ship listings & move to a different platform. Happening today.....Next is to not source larger items until this is fixed.....

I think this is a fair solution for eBay partners....please fix this eBay!

The best advice is 

"if using calculated shipping; use USPS". Then ship it USPS. The other 2 are ebay accounts and the calculated shipping is seldom accurate.

I'm not sure I understand. You are saying that you accurately enter the weight and dimensions and that eBay's Fed Ex charges are wrong?

Or that Fed Ex's weight/dimensions are wrong?

We ship most of our larger items Fed Ex (so far, just a dozen or so) and haven't had a problem yet.

It will take an extra step, but......

Calculate cost on the Fedex website, and then edit the Ebay shipping to bigger weight or dimensions until it reads that price? I do understand why there are advantages to buy shipping through Ebay rather than using a separate account at the carrier.

Thank You for the input....there is a vague, at least to me.....line if FedEx is less or not on certain items....May consider Pirate Ship, (that I had great success) at least on heavy small items...at least what you see is what you pay.

As you already know, oversized items use a different weight calculation. It’s not the same as what shows on a kitchen, bathroom or shipping scale, it’s based on the amount of space it takes up.

The dimensions are correct...eBay Fedex calculated ship will burn you...that is a guarantee, I have lost $700 on a previous sell...the worst one...be careful partner....

Not oversized at all.....familiar.... we use Pirate Ship dimensional rates & chk. FedEx prior to ship.

Something similar happen to me. I shipped a sports jacket in a large padded envelope and was charged an $18 dollar extra “special handling” charge in addition to eBay’s calculated shipping charge.  Appeal to FedEx went through eBay which was subsequently denied without further explanation.  This has only occurred once in over 100 shipments so I accept it as the cost of doing business and accepting the convenience and discount that eBay’s labeling service provides.

An item that measures 42x9x5, unwrapped is just over 11 pounds. Wrapped (adding and inch to each side) would bring it over 20 pounds. 

Is that the weight used when creating the listing?

Oversize is considered for items above a cubic foot.

I have two business accounts...this being much smaller...the other electric roundup.....I have accepted, as you have stated, the cost of doing business....but, think about how much revenue this "glitch" brings into both parties....that is why there is no interest in fixing the problem. I don't want a refund & would not accept one...just fix it CEO.....Thank You for your response.

eBay doesn't make it clear, but if you print labels through eBay for

UPS or FedEx what eBay charges you is just an estimated charge

and both carriers will send eBay a final bill on eBay's account.

It doesn't happen all the time but both carriers have surcharges that

they can add on and if they do you will be charged for it.

I ship FEDEX large heavy dish sets daily.  NEVER once have I had a difference of more then $1.00.  Once had a USPS upcharge of $15.00 which I disputed and was DENIED.  Did not even have boxes the size USPS said I shipped it in.

You just need to be very careful about size of box you input.  IF it is bulged out then Round UP an inch all around.  Never failed ...YET....LOL
