Why are sellers allowed to within minutes say an item has been shipped when all that’s happened is a tracking number has been created. It’s not shipped till delivering carrier has possession of it.

To get a tracking number a seller has to "PAY" for the label, then it's printed. Usually to print it, it's packed with size & weight now known in order to 'pay' for that label.
Shipping has begun.

It's not the seller saying the item has been shipped, that's Ebay saying that.
Buyers have complained about it for years.

I complain about it every day!

sellers also complain about this ebay policy because their shipping arrival time kicks in right then - sad.

Have you actually taken the time to open and read the email.
On the emails I receive the subject line is
Order Update (then the item description)
Then the body says
All of it is in the future tense. Then if you click the "track order" button it will say
Shipping label created. Post Office is awaiting the item.
Sorry - I just don't see the problem.

I agree that better verbiage would be 'Your shipping label has been created', but it is what it is at eBay. Hang in there...

The seller doesn't allow it, when you print a tracking label it's immediately in the system cause it has a tracking number.

Thank you for this reply!! It seems everyday someone posts about the same issue which is really just semantics. The shipping "process" has begun once the seller pays for the label. The impatience of some people is gob smacking....

Its eBay's automatic system that does this.... not the seller.
Should be changed but may have difficulty with doing so.

I never really thought about it that way . Your most likely right. As well as with estimated arrival time. Thanks for your reply. Happy Fathers Dat

So they have changed the email.
I know the last one I received just said the item has been shipped when they bought the shipping label, but it's been a couple years since I bought anything here.

Hi @grampy53
eBay notifies the buyer that, “Your item is being shipped!” after a label has been created … as that is the first step in the shipping process.
eBay has no way of knowing when the next step is taken … because scanning packages is erratic with USPS.
Every other online company sends a similar message when a label is created.

I think the question you're asking is, at what point does shipping actually begin? This is a question that has perplexed this country for almost 50 years, and has lately divided the country into two camps, one of which says shipping begins as soon as the seller gets out an envelope, and the other says shipping hasn't begun until the postman takes the package out of the mailbox. It's a thorny issue, and may soon come before the Supreme Court.

And some buyer will continue to perceive it to not be shipped until the carrier scans it even if it arrives at their door without any scan😄
