Shipping method change

I sold an item and had the shipping method set for regular USPS mail.  I found out after the sale that the buyer wants to change the shipping to USPS Media Mail which was less expensive.  The item is a book.  How do I change the shipping to reflect the lower cost?

Re: Shipping method change

When you print your label it should let you change it to media mail.  You can then refund the difference through the PayPal transaction. If it doesn't let you change it on eBay, try printing the label through PayPal.

Re: Shipping method change

If he hasn't paid yet, you can send an invoice with an adjusted shipping cost.   If he has already paid, you'll have to issue a partial refund.

Either way, you should be able to choose MM when purchasing the shipping label IF your book was listed in a media category.  eBay blocks the purchase of MM for items listed in many other categories so if for instance you listed a book in the Collectibles category you'll have to go elsewhere to purchase your MM postage. You can do it right at the PO counter, or go to

Re: Shipping method change

What is "Regular USPS mail"? Lots of delays with Media Mail, are you sure that this is the route you want to go? How much did you charge the buyer for shipping?

Re: Shipping method change

With all the postal issues I would not change the shipping service to media mail as it is a lower priced service and probably will have tons of delays as everything else will get priority before your package.

Re: Shipping method change

If you have a Priority Mail padded flat rate envelope  on hand, you might want to see if the book will fit into that.  The price would be in-between the cost of MM vs the cost shown in the listing, and the shipping time would be for Priority.

Re: Shipping method change

Your book on Tulsa weighs 1.33# and does qualify for Media Mail. And will cost you $3.45 to ship through paypal.com/shipnow.

You will need your own mailer you can't use a Priority mailer but it is easy to make a mailer for a book by cutting a T out os any cardboard you have around (provided it is not a priority box).

Place the book on the cardboard  cut a big T around the book making sure that the arms extend a half of the lighth of the height of the book  and the upright 3 times the width. Fold in the flaps across top and bottom and roll to cover them and secure the ends with tape.  Due to weather I recomend putting the book in a plastic bag before the cardboard.

Re: Shipping method change

Can the buyer still file a "not received" case if they don't get it by the estimated delivery date in the listing? Media Mail is very slow.

Re: Shipping method change

I've had no trouble with media for the past year. In fact was getting delivered faster than priority so not everyone has a delay.

Buyer requested it so I think it's safe to say buyer wants it and knows how media works.

Re: Shipping method change

1st it's not very slow at all. I think it's fine. No issues at all with other USPS delays. For months its been faster than priority!

Media 5-10 days. Priority 5 (only just last few weeks) - 45 days.

Buyer requested. Why cant people let a seller respect a buyers request to save money on postage?
