Okay, so I went to the front desk of the post office today since I had a package that was just under 16 ounces, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't close enough to exceed the allowed limit for USPS First Class Packages. The lady weighed it and then told me that anything over 13.5 ounces has to be sent priority mail. I told her that I thought it was anything over 15.9, and she said that she doesn't know where I'm getting my information from, but that I was incorrect......
Here's the thing, I probably mailed about 50+ items the last 3 months USPS First Class Mail that weighed between 14 ounces and 15 ounces, and not one of them got returned or got charged extra postage . I didn't tell her this of course. I wanted to argue with her more, but there was a long line behind me.
Also, if what she is saying is true, then why does ebay say that for USPS First Class Packages, the weight has to below 15.9 ounces for it to qualify? Why doesn't it say 13.9 ounces or 13.5 or whatever it is? Anyway.....I wanted to ask you folks if what she says is correct before I go raise my shipping costs to reflect the upgrade to priority mail.....
Thanks!

@shopndeals4home wrote:thanks coffee. I think she may have said 13 ounces actually. What if it's 15.4 oz? do I have to still pay priority mail due to the rounding up that we suppose to do?
You can print your 15.4 oz package 1st Class by using 1 pound.
The label will default to 15.9 when it prints.

The clerk obviously doesn't know differences between online and retail shipping labels- and I have no clue where "13.5" came from.
15.9 ounces is the weight limit for First Class labels purchased online.
13 ounces is the weight limit for First Class labels purchased at the retail location.

The online limit for first class is 15.99 if you take it the window at the Post office it will be 13 ozs.

A couple of mistakes here. FIRST you asked the wrong person the wrong question. SECONDLY you can buy really cheap a digitial scale so you never have to ask anyone ever again.
Correct those 2 mistakes and your problems disappear.

Thanks Rock Star..Man, wish she would have told me that....Question on that, what if it is 15.4 oz, do I still need to round up to 1 pound? even though online it says anything over 15.9 doesn't qualify?

You can enter the weight as 1 lb (First Class), but the eBay label will print as 15.9 oz, so you'll be OK.

For eBay labels your question was already answered. For other services (stamps.com, pirateship.com etc) you would manually enter 15.9 ounces.

I tried listing a blouse today, and it is (13.2 oz) rounded to 14 oz. Ebay prompt came up saying "Package weight is over the weight limit for service USPS First Class. The maximum weight is 3 oz."
Is there a glitch going on here?
Should I try listing it tomorrow, or cancel this one and start over. This is odd, it has never happened before, and I have had many items at that if not a little more than 14 oz.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

If it is showing you 3 oz the Package Type might be set up as a letter rather than as a package. Check the section where you enter the dimensions and make sure that package type is set as package (thick envelope).
OR
If that message you are seeing is a typo and is meant to say 13 ounces, your listings may have defaulted to using retail rates rather than the carrier discounted rate. The retail rate only allows first class packages up to 13 oz and the carrier discounted commercial rates allows for packages of up to 15.9 ounces. If you want, you can change your preferences to use the discounted rate but if you want to use the retail rate, just list your item at 13 ounces since the rate for 13oz to 15.99 oz are the same.
