When Viewing a listing- Seller has Item for a very low price and a extremely High rate of shipping( on light weight items).
My question is, can this be challenged or is it against some type of rule in the first place?

You can challenge it by hitting the back button and moving on to another seller.
ebay does not require sellers to charge the exact cost of postage. The seller pays the same fees to eBay and PayPal whether they list an item for $.99 + $10 shipping or $10 + .99 shipping and either way, the buyer pays the same TOTAL COST of $10.99.

If the total cost is more than you wish to pay, then pass on it. I know of no rule it breaks. It sounds more like a seller oblivious of our final value fees are calculated.

Hi !
Personally, I always send an invoice with correct shipping costs if there is a strangly high price.
Or when a buyer buy a lot of product, I ship everything in one package, and I send the invoice with the cheapest shipping possible. Every Seller should do it this way !
best regards

You can ask the seller if the shipping price quoted is accurate, but be prepared for them to say yes.
If the item price is lower than most of the same type, sounds like the seller is trying to use pricing as a tactic to get you to buy theirs but you ultimately end up paying the same with the high shipping and thus the seller makes the same amount of his competition.
He might be willing to lower the shipping but would likely raise the item price.

No, it can't be challenged. You might ask the seller but they will probably say the shipping is right.
No, there is no rule against this.
Just don't buy if you don't like the price. It is suggested to buy based on the totel price, too.

my thought, if you go to return it, they will return your $.99 purchase price and keep the shipping.

Wrong.
Ebay did away with that over a decade ago when they introduced the money back guarantee. Refunds now include the item price plus any shipping paid by the buyer.

Technically that’s only for SNADs. For remorse returns the seller refunds the item price only unless shipping was free or their return policy states otherwise 🙂

Why! The buyer has already agreed to the S&H when making the purchase. "Cheapest shipping possible" may not always be the best way to ship the particular item. I always choose to use the shipping method that offers the most likelihood that the item will arrive safely at its destination within a reasonable time. I usually include a copy of the paid invoice which includes the amount the buyer has been charged for S&H. That amount is what was in the listing and what the buyer has already agreed to when bidding or placing their order.
