Shipping Hazmat Labels

Hello 🙂 I just listed Boost Oxygen (10 liters each and there are 2 cans) and I know it is HAZMAT, but what box label would I use for this? Would it be the regular diamond limited quantity? or one that has the UN1950?  or both? There are so many different UN1950 labels I am not sure which one would be correct. I just want to know how to do this correctly so if anyone knows, the info would be much appreciated:) Thank you

What is the main chemical?  Is it flammable?    I'm thinking you need the full hazmat flammable label.  Plus your paper work needs to be properly worded with the main chemical,  the packaging group, and "X" marks the spot for hazmat.  If I'm correct than you also need a 24 hour emergency line on this.  Hopefully it falls under just simple OMR-D, but the fact that you know UN1950 tells me more info...is that what was on the box the canisters came in?  If its on the master pack it better be on the box you are shipping.

How did you receive these canisters?  Any paper work with it would have had to include the proper hazmat wording and labeling, and that shipper would have had a 24 chemical hot line line, but you cant use it if reselling, you need your own.

In the US once you go over 1 liter, you typically are no longer shipping com-Commodity, although there are some exceptions, like low % of phosphoric acid.

hmmm...I answered this with a long answer but it didn't appear.

Anyway, it is UN1072 which is not consumer commodity.  Must ship with the proper paper work showing it as hazmat, with proper wording... chemical (compressed gas), packaging group, with an "X" marking the spot as hazmat.  I also believe you need a 24 hour chemical response hot line on that form as well, and when you sell it,  the canisters  must be packaged in a DOT approved double wall box suitable for UN1072.

What was on the box you received it in?  Follow that labeling as well as what was on your packing slip.  Might even have to have the proper GHS label/pictogram as well for canisters under pressure.  And include the SDS

AS a rule of thumb, most consumer commodities are under 1 liter in the US,  although a few exceptions like low % phosphoric acids.

Fun fact....do people know that Coca Cola must follow all the hazmat regulations when shipping their syrup?  This is why it is never carried on a Coca Cola truck...doesn't look good driving down the highway with the words "corrosive" and placard as hazmat next to "Drink Coca Cola!".  It always ship on a carbonic truck, those do carry the hazmat warnings.

I know its been a couple days, I had to go out of town but now I'm back and just reading your response!

That fun fact was wild btw 😉 lol

The main chemical is oxygen. its 95% oxygen compressed in a can

I got these in a pallet that i bought locally, just a bunch of mixed goods from CVS I believe, so no shipping clues there 😕  I did see the 1 liter rule, so does that mean I technically cannot ship these? I see other people selling them with ground advantage shipping but maybe they just don't care to follow rules? idk

This is what the SDS says in the transportation section:

IDK if that helps. I may just have to go to the post office and ask them directly. or just put it in a box with all the labels lol

I did just see on the SDS these symbols, maybe I could just use these?

Those last two are the GHS symbols, part commercial  labeling "right-to-know" on the can.  They are required to be on any  product sold commercially, but not at retail level.   Reading the first pix you sent,  it does say "LTD-qty" for limited quantity.  I also see the emergency response guide "122".   This tells emergency response how to take action in case of spill/accident...might replace needing the 1-800 number.   All my trucks have this guide book with those numbers so SDS's on each chemical carried does not have to be carried on trucks.

Take all this to the Post Office and see what they say.  If it ships USPS limited quantity, then I believe just need the basic black/white triangle for limited qnty.   If it has air restrictions, USPS will let you know.

FedEx can also ship, but I don't believe you can hand deliver it into a Fedex store, it must be handled by a driver, so it is more complicated with more restrictions...check with Fedex.   More than likely you will need to include those GHS pictograms on the outside of the box, and they must be printed with the black and red as you see, don't print out black & white.  If you had the actual label from the manufacturer, or if it is on the box, it will have most the info needed...but if you split up the case and sell individually, that is were you need to then accurately duplicate the necessary info on the outside of the shipping box.

Always include that SDS with anything you sell.

One thing I thought of today, the SDS is the same for all the Boost canisters regardless of size, so the Limited Quantity may apply to the smaller canisters while the NA# is for the larger 10L ones under section 14.   Again, see what USPS say for labeling and restrictions.  I still think your 10L will be full hazmat labeling with special box & packing requirements.
