Shipping FedEx

Okay, folks.  I am a pretty new seller, have a store, and thought I was getting pretty good at the shipping thing.  Decided to branch out, sell heavier larger items, not huge.  My buyers pay shipping.  So I offered, "buyer choice", Priority, ground advantage, and FedEx, FedEx being the best rate.....or so I thought.  One week later I get a message from Ebay regarding the fee.  FedEx doubled the weight, and charged me an extra $30.00 plus.  I know my weight was spot on, and dimensions.  I changed all listings to REMOVE FedEx.  Ebay NEEDS  to DO SOMETHING about this FALSE shipping policy offered, I think you all KNOW why.  Please let me know your experience with this issue.  Thank you so much.

Both UPS and FedEx like to add extra charges after the package has been delivered.

Ebay says the price you see is only an estimate.

They were to supposed to fix it to where that wouldn't happen again, but don't know when.

Have a great day.

You didn't post any specifics.

Weight can change based on size of package if the package for instance requires to use dimentional weight instead of actual weight.

Ebay calculator is pretty decent, however isn't good for irregular packages.

Two suggestions.

First, never use Fedex unless you are a big established business with your own account with them and someone you can call on the phone when something like that happens.

Second, do not offer your customers shipping choices, it just ties your hands and can reduce your profit margins. You particularly don't want to offer any super-fast shipping options (those customers statistically are a nightmare and are highly likely to be using a stolen card, file a claim or return the items that did not arrive according to their ticking clock that they started when they ordered at 9PM at night).

Ship heavy stuff UPS, I have only had one additional charge UPS adjustment in the last 3 years and I have had several where they reduced the price.

I have seen many posts about this. I believe mainly with FedEx and UPS.

Not sure what to make of it. I rarely have an issue with USPS when buying my labels on eBay. I have a scale and I enter the weight, dims in my listings, and select calculated shipping. I will review the label purchase weights & dims before buying label to make sure they are correct. If I do have an issue, it could be like $1 plus underpaid or overpaid.

I thought the best way to get FedEx and UPS discounts was to have an account with them and ship in high volume(?). I'm not familiar with purchasing their labels from eBay.

With everything going electronic / auto pay, it just seems harder for people to control their money / funds.  They just snatch it and then you have to fight it to get it back. At the same time, this could cause some to fall victim of insufficient fund fee charges by their bank on other active bills and again from the vendor(s). Another easy money grab by BIG industry.

Now you have to fight, and they just wear you down spending your personal time, being transferred, stress, and so on.

If you don't use eBay to purchase the label, but instead use a service like PirateShip or Stamps.com, they won't be able to add service charges from some of those (pretty sure that's true on both of those, but some others), per their agreements with those sites (that may not be true if you put in the wrong dimensions, but I'm not certain how that part works).  I've seen many people say they switched from using eBay labels for FedEx because of that exact issue.
