Shipped items not scanned at USPS

Hi All,

I shipped some items sold on eBay via usps. None of my items were scanned for over a week. Now customers are yelling at me for not shipping. I dropped them off in USPS bins. It’s out of my control. Now buyers are complaining and wants a refund. What should I do? I don’t have the items and now I might lose money too! I’m so stressed. Contacting Usps is useless and tells me to be patient during the pandemic.  Help!! eBay doesn’t care about sellers at all.

Re: Shipped items not scanned at USPS

Never have had that kind of problem.

We always hand them to the clerk. Ever try using a scan sheet we get the scan sheet stamped.  Never just put it in bin.

Never had a lost package, late maybe but never lost.

Ask your customers kindly to be patient

Re: Shipped items not scanned at USPS

Haven't had any issues with  USPS - everything scanned and delivered on or before delivery date.  All of our stuff goes thru the Atlanta Distribution Center.

eBay seems to care about late deliveries and seller performance -

Re: Shipped items not scanned at USPS

I've never had that problem either... not even lately. But I use my regular carrier... not the Post Office.

Did you upload your tracking numbers? If you did, the sellers can at least see that much (know you've printed labels) and can follow their progress. I agree that maybe a note to your buyer asking their patience may help.

Good luck!

Re: Shipped items not scanned at USPS

Always get the items scanned by the clerk no matter what.  If your items are insured, they technically are not until it shows an accepted scan. Until they are scanned accepted everything is on you as a seller. Good luck!

Re: Shipped items not scanned at USPS

Apologize to your buyers and ask them to be patient because the post office is experiencing delays in a lot of areas. Sadly, if they don't arrive soon you will be responsible for refunding the buyers. I would sign up for email notification for all of the tracking numbers on USPS website, because that seems to move things along for me for some reason.

I always stand in line and get things scanned in. My post office has stopped doing that to limit contact with customers with COVID-19, so I switched to another post office temporarily.  I did leave 4-5 packages in the bin when they first changed the process and they were all scanned in the next morning. Insurance won't cover you if there is no proof you dropped off.

Re: Shipped items not scanned at USPS

I had the same issue with about 4-5 packages a few weeks ago. It wasnt scanned for over a week. Than all of a sudden it said "Delivered" a week later. I assume USPS is overloaded and dont got enough people now during the pandemic.

Best to have it scanned when dropping off but the self serve machine was down so I had to leave it in the drop box.
