Hi and thank you in advance for any advise in my situation. I sold an item, a 1930’s 30” Gulf Sign, with complete photos of all of the sign. I took to a professsional packing/shipping place and paid them to professionally pack and ship via UPS. Buyer receives and wants to return says wasn’t packaged well and a scratch was on it that wasn’t before. You will have to see photos I’ve attached to understand how I am alittle confused. It’s already scratched like crazy and my photos show 12 pictures of all the damage. Is he wants a refund and it is as described. What can I do? First 2 photos are a sample of the 12 in my listing. Next 2 buyer sent to me.

Comparing your first photo to the second photo from the buyer, it does look like a new scratch to me...but that could be the lighting. The first photo from the buyer, I can't line up with yours to see if there is a difference.
If it were me, I would file an insurance claim with the shipping carrier. I do agree that there were multiple scratches on it already and it is an old piece, but maybe the additional damage will cost more to have it restored. To me, it sounds like a case where a partial refund would be sufficient, but if the buyer simply wants to return I would file the insurance claim and then have them return it.
eBay will most likely force a return, so I think it is better to try to work things out with the buyer.

Don't reply any more. Just wait an see if you buyer starts a return request, or decides to let it go. If you get a return request, accept the return, and depending on the reason, either you or your buyer will pay for the return label.
But just wait, and don't do anything more for now.

if buyer wants 2 return u of course must accept it
Buyer may just fishing 4 a discount
If U respond suggest simply state "sorry u r unhappy with your purchase please return 4 a refund"
u probably won't hear from him again if he is just seeking a discount
Good luck and stay safe
