Shipped item via Fedex and tracking said delivered. But buyer did not receive anything.

Sold some things on ebay and made a marginal profit.  I shipped via Fedex.  It said it was delivered and i figured the buyer has the items.  Then they messaged me saying items were not received.  Fedex tracking said it was delivered.  Either they scanned too early or they misread the label and left it at a completely wrong address.  

I first filed a missing package and it was closed the very next day.  I do not think they even bother to check the trunk.  I used the cardboard boxes they used to sell copy paper packs inside of them.  So, it's a big package.  

I filed a lost package claim but has anyone have any experience on what may happen?  Will they deny my claim?  Fedex said it was delivered.  Buyer said they were outside all day and no fedex truck came.

When that happens I contact the carrier and ask them to check the GPS coordinates on the delivery scan to make sure it was delivered to the correct address. If the carrier confirms delivery to the correct address then I advise the buyer of that information and tell them to check with other members of their household, their neighbors, by the garage or back door, in the bushes, etc. I tell them they need to report it to the police if they suspect theft by a porch pirate.

Has the buyer filed an item not received claim?

No.  They havent filed an item not received.  Im waiting to hear from fedex.  If their is a chance they can find out what happen to the package that would be great.  The email said it can take 2 weeks.  

Buyer claimed no delivery trucks past by her home.  I want to hear from fedex first before issuing a refund.  

Would someone actually just keep misdelivered packages?  Kind of a **bleep**ty thing to do.

Hello, and sorry for all your grief with this!  Yes, plenty of people would gladly keep mis-delivered packages, unfortunately.  But also unfortunately there are buyers who claim to not have received their package (when in fact they had), just to weasel a refund out of softie sellers (not saying you are a softie seller!).  

The bottom line is that your shipment carrier said it was delivered, and THAT is what you should be sticking with.  When and IF they file a "item not received" request with Ebay, input the tracking number into the case file and that should be the end of your obligation.

P.S....definitely do not refund them out of some sense of guilt!  Wait at least until they file an official grievance, otherwise tell them that your obligation ends once the delivery scan was made.

Fedex will definitely deny the claim.

Happy note: Fedex is very good at documenting package delivery.  I have had a couple packages "not delivered" that were.  For instance, I had one the buyer was very upset.  I called fedex.  The driver noted that they left the package in the back seat of a car in the driveway because it looked like it was going to rain.  Turns out, that is exactly where it was at.  Not all drivers are that good, but Fedex WILL follow up.  

You need to call them.  Only a phone call will get you the results you are looking for.  On the same note, be prepared for the package being delivered and gone missing.  

If Fedex can not find this item for you, DO NOT REFUND.  It is the buyers responsibility to assure that package has a safe secure place to have their item delivered.  If they open an item not received case, make sure you put in tracking (doesnt matter if it is attached to the listing it MUST be entered into the case).  Ebay should close it in your favor.
