Sellers need to ship ON TIME

With all of the delays with the USPS, the LEAST that sellers can do is ship on time.  No, that doesn't mean printing postage - it means getting the item to the post office and having it scanned by a USPS employee.  I'm sensitive to the plight of sellers - I'm one, and I've dealt with plenty of frustrating delays over the past few weeks.  However, taking five business days to ship an item, when you have handling set at three days, isn't right.

Agree whole heartedly.  Sellers should ship when they say they will.  Not doing so adds to the questionable reputation eBay suffers from.

Were two of those days on a week end? Those are not business days.

With all of the delays, how do you KNOW that the seller didn't take the package to the PO within their handling time?

Sellers should certainly strive to meet their chosen handling time obligations. Most sellers are well aware of their deadlines and do not want to receive late-shipping 'dings' from eBay which can affect seller ratings.

But not every package that is dropped off at the post office necessarily receives a timely acceptance scan -- particularly when the post office has a backlog of shipments. Some packages may not be scanned until they are well along in their journey, through no fault of the seller.

yep.  But ultimately, it is up to the seller if they are going to drop it off or wait to have it scanned.  Most all of us are aware of the problems with just leaving our packages to be scanned.  Just because a scan does not show for the seller at the time of drop off does not mean that they shipped late.  With that said, they are risking their good name.

This is a given for those of us that take great pride in our businesses.

One thing that you may not be taking into account is how long it takes for an item dropped in the mail to actually be scanned by the USPS - I've had a couple of items take 2 full WEEKDAYS between the time I dropped them off at the post office to show "received". Yes, I will wait in line to get it scanned if I have time and the line isn't too long, but sometimes this isn't an option or isn't practical with a 30 minute line.

The USPS Automated Postage machines have an option to scan pre-paid items when dropping them off, but it doesn't work at my post office yet - I'm really looking forward to them enabling that feature on the APS machines!

Regular sellers need to get the scan.  I’d they have been paying attention, they know that scans aren’t always occurring UNLESS items are taken to  a clerk.  Sure, it is easier to dump packages in the bin, but sellers are assuming the risk of they do so. I’d be sympathetic to an occasional seller - but those that regularly sell on eBay know better than to just dump in a bin and hope for the best.

Get the scan - sellers know better than to just dump in the bin.  If they don’t care to wait for a scan, don’t sell.

Seriously, grow up. We're dealing with a global pandemic and you're tossing a hissy fit over sellers getting scans.

Do you really want a seller to risk getting the virus just so you can get your doodads scanned?

Just taking a package to the PO doesn't mean the seller did  so within their committed handling time. BTW how would eBay ever know the date and time the seller "dropped" off the package within their  handling time ??  Taking someone "word" they did certainly doesn't. Having an acceptance scan does provide firm evidence.  The seller has two ways to assure a timely acceptance scan -

1.) wait in line at the PO and have the desk person scan it in - don't want to wait in line  go to the PO when the PO first opens - avoid going at lunch time or just before the PO closes.

2.) Have your mail carrier pick them up at your and scan them in.  I do - yes you might have to talk to your carrier,  be nice to them and show appreciation for their efforts (I did & do).

Sellers should know they are being measured by on time shipping by eBay and take the necessary steps to avoid the eBay dings.  Plus they should not assume anything will happen - gotta' control your own destiny as much as feasible.

And if they use a scan sheet? They still could have the same problem.

If you think someone taking in 30-40 packages at once and standing in line to get a scan is going to happen, you are mistaken. Most will use the scan sheet, or drop them in bins.
