It finally happened to me. A buyer returned junk earrings instead of the beautiful Weiss pin and earrings set I sold her. I'll fight it best I can, but do the buyers really always win? Any suggestions?

Did you have a returns or no return in the listing?
If you had a returns accepted, you may be able to refund her only 50%, because she did not end the item back in the condition sent. I don't know if any seller has actually been able to do this, if they have they can chime in.
If you have a no returns stated, your not going to win this. If ebay steps in to resolve, they will give your seller account a defect, which hampers future sales.
Here is what you can do:
File a postal fraud claim againt the buyer.
File an IC3 report for internet fraud with the FBI.
File an abuse of the MBG report with ebay(may get the buyer on their radar)
Small claims is always an option if the amount of the purchase in your opinion is high enough to warrant a claim.

@designforyou @lure-voldemort you can only issue a partial refund up to 50% if you offer FREE returns. Otherwise, no matter what your return policy is, you have to refund in all
other tham filing various reports, all you can do is block the buyer and file an appeal with eBay.

The bolded part is only valid if the seller offers 'free' returns. If their listings state that buyers pay shipping for remorse returns the seller can't hold back funds.

You can definitely fight it, you may not win...but then again eBay may reimburse the buyer and tell you that you are not responsible as they did on a current post in the "Selling" forum. If you are courteous but insistent and it is your first time with this type of situation you are more likely to get eBay to take the bullet on this one. I would immediately "Report Buyer" and block her also.
