Seller refunded now wants return, but won't send me a proper shipping label. What to do?

I bought a ring for over $200, when i recieved it it was a smaller carat weight than described. I opened a case for return and the seller did not get back to me in 7 days so I asked ebay to step in. During the last day they had before the case was forfeited in my favor they responded by giving a full refund. Ebay closed the case.

I figured they didnt want the item back. Then a few days later they are messaging me with instructions to return the item on my dime. I said they need to send a prepaid label. They send me a prepaid fedex ground. I do not have a fedex store near me and Im not willing to travel to return this item. I asked them for a usps or ups label instead and they said they dont do that and sorry for the inconvenience.

So what do I do? They're making it difficult for me to return their item. Do I have to pay for a usps label myself? Do I keep the item? I've never been in this situation. What's the protocol here?

The worst that could happen is the seller gets it back postage due and I'm sure he woud be happy to pay it rather than have it returned to the OP.

Neither FedEx Ground not Smartpost can be "legally" put in a FedEx Express dropbox. And I've never seen a FedEx Ground dropbox.

A Ground package dumped in an express dropbox stands a chance of "accidentally getting lost" if the driver or someone at FedEx can't be bothered to move it from the express side to the ground side (they are separate companies)

She can put it in any fedex box, thats the point. Its at NO risk to her. It may be against fedex rules to put a ground shipment in an express box but its the seller who is at risk not the OP.

Or she can drive that exhausting 5 mile trip and ship it properly.  If she's in a rush she can take the main highway and it's 7.3 miles.  Me??  I'm in the sticks but even if I'd have to drive 50 miles I'd have some fun shopping along the way.

You are making no sense. OP could put it in a UPS dropbox, the garbage can, or donate it yo Goodwill if the point were to make sure there is a good chance it won't make it back to the seller. However, that doesn't seem to be OP's intent as evidenced by having started this thread looking for options.

OP also lied that there was no place near her to ship it with the sellers supplied label.  There is a place and she is just looking for excuses to NOT ship it back even though it would only be a 5 mile trip from her town to the FedEx shipping location.  When you find one lie you are likely to find others.

No I’m making total sense. What makes no sense is an OP who starts off willing to return the item but then refuses to do everything suggested except ask for a different label and as Katt pointed out, incorrectly states that the nearest fedex location is 40 miles away. I have put ground shipments in the Dropbox and they arrived just fine. They were return shipments too. Just because fedex doesn’t allow ground labels in a drop box, it doesn’t mean they don’t deliver those shipments.

Re: Seller refunded now wants return, but won't send me a proper shipping label. What to do?

OP knows darn well that there is a FedEx ship center 5 miles away.  Instead of making excuses for the OP why didn't YOU look for the nearest FedEx ship center to her?  Why did she come here?  She wanted sympathy and everyone to tell her she was right so she could pocket that 250 buck ring with no guilt.  Clearly she is guilty for not returning that ring.  The seller may have made a mistake in the carat weight of the ring but the OP still wants the ring bad enough that she will scam it away from the seller.

Re: Seller refunded now wants return, but won't send me a proper shipping label. What to do?

I am not familiar with that case but from what you are decribing the buyer seems to be at fault for waiting until the last minute to request a refund so yes she was willing to pay the return shipping to get the refund outherwise she would be SOL.

In this case, the roles are reversed, the seller is at fault for not reponding the case and allowing Ebay to close the case with a refund, so the seller should be the one going out of their way to get the item back from the buyer who doesn't even have to respond to the seller's requests anymore.

Re: Seller refunded now wants return, but won't send me a proper shipping label. What to do?

Ebay didn't close the case refunding the OP.  The seller refunded the OP on his own before the case closed.  He made the same mistake MANY sellers do in clicking on refund the buyer and then clicking on continue.  It automatically closes the case when he actually should have clicked on return for refund.  He sent the OP a FedEx return label to return the ring back to him.

The OP is refusing to return the ring saying he sent a FedEx ground label which would cause her to have to drive 40 miles to the nearest FedEx shipping center to ship the ring back annd she refuses to do that.

As I pointed out, she is FIVE miles away from the FedEx shipping center and not 40 miles.  She just plain is taking advantage of the seller making a mistake in refunding instead of waiting for the return before refunding.  She wants the ring and the refund the seller sent her & is looking for any loophole she can find to accomplish that.

If it's good enough to keep I think the OP needs to send the sellers money back.

The OP has stated that there is a drop box. And that she does not want to pay For shipping. So that is why the question remains, why should she pay for a USPS label when she has a prepaid fedex lax and a local drop box?

I think it's because people were saying that ground packages didn't go in the drop box.

Since the seller willingly refunded I do think the buyer should be sending this back with the label provided.   The seller could have choose return for a refund the op would have used whatever label provided no matter how inconvenient and waited to receive their refund until it was returned and the seller then issued the refund. But because the seller issued the refund immediately the buyer doesn't want to be unconvinced by sending it back.    Sorry that's just wrong.

I ship out little jewelery packages and even many of them wont fit in the opening of the blue box so I have to go into the PO and put them in the big drop door.  Not possible if hte PO is closed.

We aren't talking about a usps blue box.  We are talking about a fed ex box.  The ones in my town have a handle to pull it down and slide packages in   One of my usps blue boxes in town has this too though

The buyer is not at fault and she had 30 days to request a return. Filing on day 29 may be “the last minute” but that’s irrelevant to the situation at hand and it has nothing to do with the seller failing to respond to the case. And she would have been given a prepaid label at the sellers expense if the seller had approved the return. Or eBay had required a return when she asked them to step in. She opened the case within the time allowed.

My post office blue box just has the top opening.  This is a tiny ring~~there's no need to a 6X6 box for it.  5 miles away she can ship it FedEx ground with no problem using the sellers return label~~it will take no time at all and less than a 1/2 gallon of gas round trip.  I hope I don't hear the disabled/don't drive excuse.  Seems like the OP disappeared anyway~~probably took the ring with her.

It may be listed - w/o carat weight, sparse description .  .  . something is just not right 😞

Re: Seller refunded now wants return, but won't send me a proper shipping label. What to do?

On the other case she had to file thru pay pal because her 30 days had passed with being able to open a case thru ebay.  That's where it came in that she had to pay return shipping to get her refund.  On that thread she said she didn't mind paying return shipping if it meant she would get a refund.  In this case she already had her refund.  I bet if she had to return for refund in this case she would either pay USPS shipping or suddenly remember where that FeEx shipping center is 5 miles away.
