Twice today I called to have a defect removed because the buyer opened the item (cell phone) and eBay policy says the item cannot be altered. Both customer service reps told me about this "seller make it right period" where I have 3 days to "discuss" the return with the buyer? What's there to discuss and is this "seller make it right period" something new? I don't see it anywhere in any policies (and eBay has a lot) anywhere.

Trinitron has clarified that a buyer is allowed to open an item --
to verify its condition.

Essentially yes they are required to return an item in the same condition however, if its a new item and the buyer claims its defective you must accept the return and pay return shipping

Trinitron is wrong and should read his company's policies. This is the problem with eBay, I can call 5 different times and get 5 different answers. Did Trinitron write the policy?

When you say the buyer opened the phone, are you saying he took the actual phone apart? Or did he receive a brand new phone and remove it from its packaging? The 3 day period means you have 3 days to resolve the problem to the buyers satisfacfion and if you don't, they can ask eBay to step in and the request becomes a case...
