Seller doesn't want me to return with ebay return label

I've bought a lot of things on ebay and this is only my second return i've had to do. The item was defective and skipped the entire time i tried to watch it. Both times i've tried to return now the seller doesn't want to use the return label ebay provides. I would just rather use it because it reassures me that the seller will have to refund me when they get my item.  here is me and the sellers conversation

Me: Got the blu-ray all packaged up and i just wanted to check because it says in the return info that i am suppose to wait for a return label. Am I suppose to get that from you? thanks!

Seller: I just checked and the label eBay is suggesting cost about $5 ...if you send it with media mail it will only cost $2.80 ..I will refund that to you thru PayPal along with the blu ray refund and send it as money to a friend so there’s no fees taken out.

Is it a good idea to do what the seller is asking? i'm not saying he will screw me over but i think it would just be easier to use the ebay return label for both of us.

DO NOT SHIP THIS DEFECTIVE ITEM ON YOU OWN LABEL!

Seller is responsible to pay return shipping and issue a full refund.  If you do something outside of the eBay MBG you will lose protections!

Seller is demonstrating their colors by suggesting you commit mail fraud by sending something Media Mail that does not qualify.

Use the MBG.  Go to the bottom of this page, find the link for the Resolution Center and start a NAD case.  Get a label from the seller and follow the eBay instructions carefully!  If you have a doubts - come back here and ask for help!  Do not guess!

@no_zero369  Blu ray doesn't count as Media Mail? I haven't used Media Mail in about a decade so I don't know if their rules have changed.

@joadc73  Honestly it sounds like the seller isn't trying to screw you over. It sounds like they are so super frugal that they are trying to save as much money as they can. And they are willing to inconvenience you to do that.

You are right in that you will be better protected and least inconvenienced if you just use the ebay postage label.

@joadc73

The seller is trying to screw the USPS, do you think they would have a problem screwing a buyer?

Just use the label issued by Ebay.

Have a great day.

There is an option that says tell us how you sent it. If i use media mail and enter the tracking info into that will i still be protected by ebay for the return? or do i have to use the ebay return label to be protected?

No, use the eBay label or else the seller can say you never returned the item, and eBay has no proof you returned it, so you don't get your money.

Also, as someone who sells books and video games, the fact he is suggesting Media Mail instead of First Class for a Blu Ray throws a big red flag. Media Mail is economy and very slow, there is no reason to send a Blu Ray disc, which weighs a few ounces, via Media Mail. It seems to me this seller is trying to get out of the return by creating a shipping delay, but that's just my opinion.

DVDs and Blurays can be sent Media Mail, that's not the issue.

The issue is that the party that provides the label is responsible for the shipment. If you use the label the seller provides and the package gets lost, you still get a refund.

If you use your own label and the package gets lost, you get nothing.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

You can send it outside of ebay as long as seller provides label. I've dealt with this. Screwing usps is a stretch lol. There been screwing us for decades lol. Butbyea the seller has to provide it, its perfectly safe that way. Do not provide it yourself, and if you do they don't have 2 refund shipping cost. So estimate them send it to you.

watch out for another scam where they will change there return address on the return label and have it sent though ebay too different  address  close by .   they then get the package remove the item tape it back up and take it back to the post office and have them return to sender .  . your out your money and item

@bigdeals.etc

I think you are right, good catch!  My bAd!

But what if the Blu-Ray was of the Best Super Bowl Adverts or something similar?  😜

@angwjea

Huh?  How does that scam work?

The seller send the buyer a fake label?  Once the tracking shows item is delivered the the seller has a few days to refund or buyer asks eBay to step in and issue the  refund.  So the seller can put any address they want. No?

Am I missing something?

Yea the buyer isn’t trying to be dishonest or anything. They are just so into penny pinching that they don’t see any financial value in time and effort... just like my friend who always drives 20 minutes out of the way each direction to save about 3-4 dollars on a tank of gas.
