Scam? Tracking not updating in eBay or USPS

Hey,

So this has been a harrowing ordeal already and I'm pretty sure the seller is trying to scam me. Bought an iPad for nearly 1200 bucks in total and seller shipped out the package updating with multiple tracking numbers from USPS. Was eventually sent by FedEx.

On receiving the package, it contained a pair of dirty pants, a demolished tablet or some sort, an empty case of apple pencil, a book and a phone case. Contacted the seller, didn't bother replying for 3 days. Contacted eBay, they said not to worry and ship it back and refund will be issued. Sent me a shipping label.

Label was attached to the package and picked up for shipping by USPS and even got a confirmation message saying so. But the tracking hasn't updated on either eBay or USPS portals, shipping label attached. Eventually the seller started replying and told lies that I called him out on multiple times on so I know he is a scammer.

Now I'm worried that he is trying to scam me like mentioned here:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping-Returns/Return-Service-Shipping-Tracking-Not-Updating/td-p/27...

What can I do to successfully get my return?

PS. How do I know he is a scammer? The product description said iPad pro, apple pencil and case. When I didn't get anything in the package, when he eventually replied he started blaming me that I'm trying to scam him. Asked him for invoice of the iPad that he bought and he sent me a screenshot of an iPad bought from eBay. Saw his feedback and found out that he flipped that iPad the very next day on eBay itself. Asked him for invoice of apple pencil and the case that he supposedly bought off eBay and that's when he suddenly realized that maybe FedEx stole it lol. This along with the multiple tracking IDs that he gave earlier and the problem with the tracking now makes me very suspicious.

Edit: formatting.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention it here, but the package was delivered, both eBay and USPS show that. This happened after seller asked eBay to step in AFTER he got the package back.

Yeah initially they were supposed to get back to me in 48 hours but it's now extended to 17th may, that is why I'm worried.

I shall keep you guys updated. I'll try not to worry about it but 1200 bucks is a lot of money for me 😞

That is odd.  This isn't about the tracking not showing delivered it is an INAD.  Let's see if we can get someone to tell us why this would happen.

Thanks for the tag @mam98031! Requests can be placed on hold for a number of reasons, from us needing to allow time for a seller to review the item they received, to allow a member time to correspond with us and in some situations where we may need to investigate further with the courier (concerns of misdelivery or damage during transit).

In either case, if you still need help with this after the hold time has passed @vinayrajsb please consider contacting CS for additional assistance. Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand this.  When it is an INAD and the item has been delivered back to the seller, what need would the seller have to need another week or so to review what they received back?  Not sure I understand why that might happen.

Hi @mam98031 - it depends on the particulars of the situation, but some examples are where we are working with the seller on reports of abuse or misdelivery, unusual circumstances like natural disasters, postal shutdowns, etc. Thanks!

It just shows me the sellers statement about me asking him to mail it to my friends address which was the shipping address in the order anyway.

The case is on hold for the 17th because your package passed through another pair of hands, so there's a good chance the $1200 will slip through your hands.

Re: Scam? Tracking not updating in eBay or USPS

Sometimes I got to the PO with a list of numbers that aren't tracking.  Some show in their internal system but not the online system we get at home.  Other times it gets a stuck item moving.  Unfortunately you need to go to the PO do do this.

OK, maybe I completely misunderstood the issue at hand here.  I thought this was an INAD.  The OP says they received the item it was just not what they ordered and that the seller had given them more than one tracking number on the package.  It could be that I am the one walking in the fog here.

That's exactly what I was afraid of...

Re: Scam? Tracking not updating in eBay or USPS

There was nothing in the package!! Instead of an iPad pro there were dirty pants and some more useless stuff inside so I contacted eBay and raised a return!! eBay told me it'd be okay so I mailed it back and now he has everything on hold.

I understand why he posted multiple tracking numbers now... The seller lied and didn't actually mail the package when he told me he did. The said first he mailed it via USPS, but the package arrived via FedEx. The label was created 2 days after he told me he shipped it.

Sadly with eBay's system of resolution I can't even add anything to the case that they have created. Really disappointed with eBay and now afraid for me money.

I believe you get your money back. It sucks the case is on hold now, but all you can do is wait.

Hopefully! I've been a member for more than a decade now with 100% rating. This guy has made his account in November of 2019 and has just sold twice...

Hopefully that matters while resolving an issue.

Well see that is what I thought which is why I don't understand why the seller got an extension on your INAD.  Or did you happen to file an INR [item not received].  If you did, that was the wrong kind of claim to file.  You got the package, just it did not contain what you purchased.  If you filed an INR we need to ask Tyler how to best handle that as it should be an INAD and you should return the items you received to the seller.

Neither of those points play any part in deciding a claim.

Re: Scam? Tracking not updating in eBay or USPS

The reason given by me was, "doesn't match description or photos"

OK so you filed an INAD [item not as described].  Perfect.

So I really don't understand why Ebay gave them an extension.
