Returns Concerns

So I’ve told by a few buyers that I'm known on the community for being a bad buyer.  Not sure how true this is but I can see why some average/low grade sellers would assume that. I purchase NEW items and many sellers on ebay are resealing packages or claiming the item is new then it's not. So I have much more returns than I wish I did. So many buyers think I’m scamming them. Which makes little to no sense to me why I would order an item, receive it, and then decide I don't want it and ship it back...Anyways,  I just wish sellers were disciplined more for trying to pass used items as new. I don't think a single seller has ever received a warning or anything negative for doing this. While, in my business I will lose my customer and/or job selling used items as new.

Any advice or has anyone else experienced issues like this? Thanks guys!

Re: Returns Concerns

I would say you're a bad seller if you open your items and put them back in the boxes and try passing them as new. By Ebay's policy, and mine.

Re: Returns Concerns

Sounds like your buying and selling on the same ID. Open another. All those negative comments go away. If you start to get more, open another. You're allowed up to 12.

If a package doesn't have a manufacturing seal, I'm aware of that before hand... If it does and its been broke, then it should NOT be classified as new. Not sure why this is blowing everyones mind here? This is the policy of Ebay and Amazon. Amazon is just much more strict.

My point is that i'm tired of buying new items and receiving opened used items.. Mostly electronics.

I don't think you are "blowing everyones mind" here or elsewhere.  I find it amazing that you feel you know which manufacturers actually / literally seal a package/box and those that don't.  Some of course are easy to spot, if they come in the plastic packaging, but others not so much.

Re: Returns Concerns

Not every category has a New Other option.  I buy a variety of items to resale, including items that are new and/or sealed.  It is a dilemma for me as to whether to open the box to check the item and for photos.

I recently sold an item on another ID that appeared sealed to me.  I did not open the box, but the buyer received a box with the internal packaging and no item.  This was a big embarrassment to me and a hassle for my buyer.  Somehow the box had been opened from the bottom and the item removed before I purchased it.  So it always worries me to not check the product itself before selling.

I'm not trying to fool buyers or mislead when I list an item as New that has been opened---I just want my buyer to get a new and unused item, rather than an empty box.

My point is that i'm tired of buying new items and receiving opened used items.

Two points:

1.  If you purchase a "new" item, open the box to look at it and decide to return it, by your own criteria you are returning a previously "new" item as "used".  That runs counter to eBay policy.  It also puts your veracity in question.

2.  An item may be taken out of a box if the box does not have a manufacturer's seal and still be "new", not used as you claim.  It is the USE of it, the actual putting into service, which determines if it is used, not the mere taking it out of a box for photos.

Based upon your comments, I would not say you are a "bad" buyer, but I would agree you are unreasonable.  As a seller, I would not necessarily want to deal with such exacting standards while I was the one following eBay policy.

Re: Returns Concerns

It's actually really easy to go to completed listings and see previous sales on any item.. Which is exactly what I do.

Re: Returns Concerns

1. Your statement makes little to no sense. If it's truly new and not tampered with, I have no reason to return it.. You're purely accusing me of returning all items I buy with this assumption. I'm 100% aware of how items come ne from the manufacturer in every single situation. Also, many sellers have return policies that would allow returns if the buyer is not happy. I'm a seller as well...

2. I've not once stated that I have any issue with an item being taken out of the box is there is no manufacture seal to begin with as long and it remains in the factory condition. You're putting words in my mouth..

After reading your comment, i'd say you're a "bad" interpreter 😉

OK, I don't remember talking about that, but what does that have to do with anything?

And you asked my point... Well, my point is fair clear.. I do know every item and how it comes.  I'm referring to what you stated.. So i'm confused why you're asking this..

Interesting.  I've been selling fragrances for years and I still don't know which ones will come sealed and which ones won't.  That isn't from not paying enough attention but because sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.  Also because packaging varies as well.

Re: Returns Concerns

I hate when the same manufacturer sometimes seal their packages and sometimes they get lazy and don't. Happens all the time 😉

Re: Returns Concerns

You have an unusual outlook on things.  One I don't share.  I said nothing about a manufacturer being "lazy", which I don't think has anything to do with it anyway.  But what I did say is that especially at this time of year, some manufacturers change packaging.  I also said that some manufacturers seal packages and some don't in the fragrance industry.  Again, nothing to do with being "lazy".  Just the way they have chosen to package their items.
