So I sold a pair of trainers on eBay. The buyer now wants to return them because he doesn't like them (I don't usually accept returns but am happy for them to be returned as long he pays the return postage). I called ebay to check whether this was ok and they have advised that the reason he gave is not a valid reason so they will deal with it within 7 days and inform him that that's not a legitimate reason for a reason.
My only concern is that if ebay tell him this and close the case that he will go to PayPal and then open a dispute (which from my experience always end in the buyers favour).
Has anyone had an experience like this in the past?

You can accept the return and the buyer will pay return shipping, because "just don't like them" is buyers remorse.
Just for reference, these are the reasons that eBay gives to a buyer in the dropdown return menu: (pink are SNAD, black are remorse)
Doesn't fit
Changed my mind
Found a better price
Just didn't like it
Ordered by mistake
Doesn't work or defective
Doesn't match description or photos
Wrong item sent
Missing parts or pieces
Arrived damaged
Doesn't seem authentic

Thanks @penguins_dont_fly, when they said not an acceptable reason, it made me think why was it an option!?
Do you think that I need to return the original postage also? It was charged at £10 when in reality was more than that? I'm selling on behalf of a friend and his response to this was 'it's not my fault he doesn't like them'. I understand where he's coming from, but I'm just in two minds.

I don't know about the UK options ... but in the US, the seller has the option to refund minus original shipping when the item is returned (if the original shipping was NOT "free").
Me, when a buyer is honest, and has paid return shipping ... I refund in full 🙂 To me, that's just good customer service....they are out the return shipping, I am out the original shipping ... makes us even, in my book.

1st, you do have a no return policy. Look at the notice again and if this was a clear buyer remorse return request it should say you have the right to deny the return. Just click on the deny request and it closes the case. DO not let customer service tell you not to do anything and that they will close it for you~~it will result in ebay seeing that you ignored the request and they will refund the buyer AND let her keep the item.
I just had a buyer remorse request to return yesterday. It clearly gave me the option to deny it which I did and the case is closed. I also have a no return policy.

Thanks @kattinsanity
if I close the request, can he not then open a PayPal dispute for a return/refund?

PayPal doesn't cover buyers remorse ... but it does cover SNAD....

Even if they do somehow open a case through pay pal they would have to pay return shipping & usually buyers don't find that cost effective especially when you MAY deduct the original shipping as well. Pay pal doesn't make YOU pay return shipping.
