Return Policy on eBay

Let me share my little eBay story 😉

It doesn’t meter if you have your own return policy, to eBay your return policy means nothing. If buyers don’t want to pay for shipping, they simply lie by opening the case and say that item is not as described or damaged, sellers are automatically screwed. You will pay for everything, and buyer will get full refund!!! …only one thing you can do is to pray, that when your item returns, it's still in the same/working condition.

In the past month I've had two buyers who abused return policy, but eBay and PayPal decided to penalize me!

1st item was not working, so I listed as for parts or repairs with no returns policy. Buyer kept the item for two days and then without contacting me or eBay, he went to the post office and refused the package. Then through his financial company he open the case on PayPal against me …guess what eBay and PayPal did? …eBay completely nothing, PayPal right away took the money from my balance and reimbursed the buyer. Remember, buyer cannot just refuse the item, it is against eBay’s and PayPal’s policy!!!!! …I had a double protection …LMAO

2nd item was used Intel 6th Generation Motherboard, and I listed it with 14 days money back and buyer pays return shipping. Long story short, buyer made a mistake by purchasing from me 6th Generation Motherboard, for her 7th Generation Processor …it is incompatible and it will not work!!! …then she realized that she made a mistake, but she didn’t want to pay for return shipping, so she opened a case saying that the item came damaged and is not working. eBay did completely nothing to protect me from this fraud, instead they refund the buyer to the last penny.

So, like I said before, It doesn’t meter if you make your own return policy, eBay and PayPal don’t care about sellers return policy, buyer will always win …if buyer doesn’t want to pay for return shipping, simply he/she has to say that item is damaged and is not working!!!

I ONLY purchase on eBay with a credit card. No matter how small. AE is your friend. 😉

Aside, I've noticed that AE adds $1 to the amount displayed on the website if the pending purchase is less than a dollar: For example, a pending 89 cent charge is displayed as $1.89 instead.

I guess I wouldn't mind a choice as a seller not to accept credit cards, but I wouldn't buy anything without it.

With current eBay’s and PayPal’s policy I agree with you 100%

Then Ebay and Paypal would just make a new buyer protection policy that would suck more

That's only if you lose. Most chargebacks can be won (except for SNAD)

I have one right now as we speak! I haven't been charged $20 (I'm sure I will be if I lose).

In my case, when the buyer opened a dispute through his financial institution, PayPal right away put on hold the item + shipping cost. Then, a week later or so, I received an update email…

The disputed amount has been debited from your PayPal account because of the following reason(s):

This chargeback type was not covered under Seller Protection.

In addition, you have been debited a $20.00 USD chargeback fee.

…and the money disappeared from my PayPal account. Make sure you have enough money, because this debit might made your PayPal account balance negative …causing additional charges.

I’m still asking myself, what I did wrong.

I described that this is “none working motherboard”, and listed as “for parts or repair” with “no returns accepted

What buyer did is a pure scam.

  1. On the same day of the purchase he opened new eBay account.
  2. Then he kept the item for two days in his house, and then he went to post office and he refused the package without contacting me, or eBay.
  3. The Buyer has done everything against my, eBay’s and PayPal’s policy, and yet, I was penalized for it.

…so, my (or any seller's) return policy means completely nothing. The whole Return Policy or Seller Protection is a bunch of **bleep**

Re: Return Policy on eBay

If you are asking yourself what went wrong I could sum it up in a few sentences:

1) Having a no return policy sometimes forces a buyer to go directly to Pay Pal because they do not believe they will get a refund on Ebay.

2) If they have used a credit card they will sometimes do immediate chargeback rather than contacting the seller.

3) The policies say that a refused package is unacceptable MBG policy, however, Pay Pal will not honor a refused package as long as that package has been sent back to you and you have the goods--they cannot allow you to keep that money and the item as well.

4) Best to allow returns and in most cases, just reply to buyer return for refund and provide a pre paid label if they rightly or wrongly tell you it is not as described.

5) Factor in the loss of shipping back into another one of your items.

Re: Return Policy on eBay

So I see that you agree with me, that return policy means completely nothing and the whole Return Policy or Seller Protection is a bunch of **bleep**

At this moment there are many ways for buyer to lie and not to follow the return policy …especially scammers love it!

…and your advise is; "let it go and move on"          WOW! …seriously?!?

"In my case, when the buyer opened a dispute through his financial institution, PayPal right away put on hold the item + shipping cost."

Unfortunately, your case does not involve Return Policy or Seller Protection: It is a chargeback for the reason Merchandise returned, Credit not issued.

PayPal is the merchant of record, and PayPal took the hit.

"Make sure you have enough money, because this debit might made your PayPal account balance negative …causing additional charges."

You aren't charged fees for a negative PayPal balance.

Re: Return Policy on eBay

This is however the fault of those sellers who believe they have the right to make their own return policy while selling on ebay, they do not have that right, it is clearly spelled out in the agreement.

I do agree with you that a "No Returns" policy is flawed however this is also misunderstood.

Sellers do NOT have to accept the item back however sellers DO have to issue a refund as per the MBG, you as a seller can allow the buyer to keep the item as you issue the refund, unfortunately many sellers equate "No Returns" with "No refund" meaning these sellers believe if they refuse a return they will not have to issue a refund and that is erroneous.
