Received something I didn't order

Hi, all.
I got a package in the mail the other day from ebay—something that I never ordered. There's no packing slip to indicate user ID or contact info. Ideas??

Thanks!

Re: Received something I didn't order

I would seal it back up and give it to the mail carrier marked return to sender, you can include a note explaining why if you like, but it will go back to the sender, you do not need to pay postage to do a return to sender.  Is the label addressed to you?

Re: Received something I didn't order

If it was an ebay generated label it should have an item number on it
Many drop ship from Amazon or print on Paypal & Stamps.com so not sure
but if it is an ebay label it will be small but the item number will be printed up the side of the label.

Re: Received something I didn't order

The item number only prints on my labels if I check the box to put it there, none of my labels have the item number on it unless I'm sending it to a freight forwarder or they specifically ask me to put the number on the label.

Perhaps it was a gift from a friend or family?

If the package has been opened, it cannot be handed back to the carrier with Return to Sender.  New postage must be applied.

Before the OP returns the package, he needs to check if he has bought anything else recently that did not arrive and possibly his seller mixed up addresses on his package.

Thanks. I think you can't return to sender if the package has been opened. 😕

Re: Received something I didn't order

I have received many return to sender packages that have been opened and some over a week old when sent. The supervisor at my post office clarified to me that they could be resealed and sent. Of course with anything that is not found in the domestic mail manual (and some that are) you may have varying results. I'll have to make a note to look it up. Thanks for your perspective so I can find out what is accurate instead of relying on the supervisors comments.

If you have not opened the package, mark it “Return to Sender.” The Postal Service will send it back at no charge to you.
