"You asked eBay to step in and help on Jul 20, 2016. Customer support will review the information you provided and provide details on their decision within 48 hours. Please view the case detail for additional information."
I did it but I had to cripple my message to bare minimun!

Great news that you were able to get your message through, but how many characters were there in the end? I have come to this thread looking for the answer, as I have the same problem as you You say you had to cripple your message, but did not say how many characters you wrote.

If the text box begins to scroll, you've exceeded the limit.

That's a ridiculous way of indicating that you've exceeded the limit. Setting aside the fact that this limit is unnecessarily restrictive, the maximum number of characters should be specified upfront and decrease as you type your post. At the very least, you should be unable to add text once you've reached the limit so that you don't waste any more time than necessary. I see absolutely no justification for this eBay stupidity. I suspect it takes more code to allow scrolling than it does to disallow additional text.

I finally got my request to go through with 997 characters, so the limit is probably 1,000

Yes i can confirm it I just submitted 999 characters, I had to shorted in down from about 1200 so it wasnt easy and some sentences didnt make perfect english sense because of it. So limit is indeed 1000 characters.

Thank you for posting the character limit. It was frustrating trying to edit my case without knowing what the exact limit was.
And I pity anybody who didn't copy & paste their text first, since the form oh-so-helpfully deletes all of your text if it's over the unspecified limit with no warning.
