Question about international shipping

I didn't realize that international shipping is automatically selected when making a listing and I didn't look. I listed a media mail item where I paid shipping. So I purchased the label for $2.80 (which is fine) but my question is will there be any additional charges for shipping? Or the price I paid is the final thing I have to pay for?

Hope this makes sense, thanks.

Question about international shipping

Where does your buyer live? When you purchase an online label, the postage cost is charged automatically based on the buyer's address.  Media Mail isn't even available internationally; it's strictly a domestic service so you could only purchase it for a US address.

Question about international shipping

Are you talking about GSP (global shipping program)? Does it show an address in Erlanger, KY?  If so your package will be shipped to the ebay GSP hub and ebay will take over from there, forwarding it to where ever it is going.

The additional international shipping charges were paid by the customer directly to ebay.  You don't get any of that. All you get is whatever you charged in your listing,

Question about international shipping

Yes to Erlanger KY.  I wasn't thrilled that the GSP option was automatically selected but if youre telling me I only pay for the label when setting up shipping, I guess its no different than shipping within the USA.

Btw i went to Hawaii once as a kid, best vacation ever

Question about international shipping

If  you don't want to ship internationally, you can deselect that capability in your site preferences/shipping options.

That's why i use GSP.  Some people love it. Some people hate it.  I love it.

When you're born and raised here, it's really no big deal.   Glad you enjoyed your stay!  😃

What are the pros and cons of GSP?

Question about international shipping

As a buyer GSP makes everything more expensive, plus depending on destination it can also charge import duties on duty exempt goods. As the frieght company (Pitney Bowes) has a direct account with customs and declares the total value of shipment for a single clearance with thousands of eBay purchases. Thus if your goods are duty exempt they may still end up being charged duty on.

As a buyer it is slow (because of the extra shipping domestic+international), expensive (usually more than USPS), and you risk duty not to be as expected.

As a seller it is convenient to use if you are not experienced in international shipping (you do not need to fill in customs forms, work out international shipping prices and carriers). You also receive some more protection against non-deliveries and other tracking/delivery related issues.

edit: As a buyer I will absolutely not buy anything that is shipped with GSP unless it comes at a very good price; the shipping cost is often double comparable items shipped directly with USPS or a decent FEDEX/UPS/other courier rate.
