eBay Shipping Policy a Disgrace

I shall share the email that I sent eBay customer service department, which sets out my grievances and disgust at the state of eBay’s service delivery...

In short, eBay is not what it used to be. Items are held up at the Global Shipping Center for an inordinate amount of time. There are unacceptable delays with orders and processing of orders. I’ve had items seized by the Global Shipping Center, yet other international companies manage to clear the exact same items at customs and deliver them without delay. eBay has become my last resort. I highly recommend Amazon. Orders are processed and delivered swiftly, efficiently, painlessly and without delay (and without meritless excuses).

Before anyone says that I am heartless and am unfairly criticizing eBay, especially considering the current Covid-19 pandemic. This is my simple response. Every other company I have ordered goods from have adapted and responded to the “new normal”. They process and deliver goods, as promised. Quite simply, eBay falls short on this score.

Now for the long of it. My message to eBay customer service...

“Greetings

To say that I am unimpressed with eBay’s service would be an understatement. My previous order was restricted at the Global Shipping Center (“the GSC”). It took the GSC eleven days from the date of arrival of the item to process the order, which I find totally unacceptable. I was then informed that my order was undeliverable, as it was a restricted item. I am still not exactly sure why the item is restricted. I have ordered items from Amazon of the exact same nature in the last month and have had no issues whatsoever with delivery. On that note, it has also taken Amazon two weeks from the date of placing the order to deliver the items to me.

I have now checked the status of this order and noticed that it arrived at the GSC one week ago. Surprise, surprise. The GSC hasn’t done anything in a week. My item is probably sitting on a pile. I don’t accept the persistently used “Covid excuse”. If Amazon is able to deliver items in the ordinary course, eBay should do the same. I used to be a huge fan of shopping on eBay. I could find items at good prices and delivery used to be simple and easy.

However, I have realised that eBay’s service is not what it used to be. I have decided that I will rather pay the additional costs (if any) and order from Amazon in the future. The prices of their items are similar, if not better at times. Amazon’s service is far superior to that of eBay. And most importantly, Amazon delivers the items I order without any delay.

I am sad that eBay has gone downhill rapidly, but I suppose these testing times have show which companies are able to adapt to change (and those that aren’t). Unfortunately, eBay is not a company that has adapted to the new normal. I am immensely disappointed by eBay’s service. I feel that it is only fair to the greater eBay community that I share my views, which I shall do.

Yours sincerely,

A disgruntled, dissatisfied, and possibly, a former customer”
